Communion dress material?

My daughter’s first communion is this spring, and I was thinking of knitting her dress, and adding Irish Lace to the sleeves and collar. However, I was wondering if there were any materials that communion dresses “should” be made of, or if this would be okay?
 
I would suggest you speak with the person in charge of the FHC prep (her teacher, the DRE, your Priest) and ask if there are any guidelines or dress codes for your Parish.
 
Wow - it sounds like it will be gorgeous and very special since you are making it. Other than parish guidelines for dress, I don’t believe there are any stipulations on what the dress should look like.
 
If you find that you DO have to follow guidelines for the dress, itself… perhaps you could just knit a little, matching jacket for over the dress? Just a thought. It sounds beautiful! What a blessed little girl, to have a mom who will knit her such an awesome keepsake for her First Communion Day! 🙂
