I know that we have to receive communion during Easter time. Does this mean it has to be within the defined Easter Season or can it be just around this time, even if it is a little before or after?

We are still in the Easter Season. It can be after Easter, during the Easter Season. I don’t think Lent counts. Easter lasts until Pentecost, so as long as one received communion before Pentecost, then you have met the Easter duty.

But keep in mind that is the minimum and doesn’t mean you don’t attend Mass on every Sunday and each Holy Day.

Here is what Canon Law says:

Can. 920 §1. After being initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, each of the faithful is obliged to receive holy communion at least once a year.

§2. This precept must be fulfilled during the Easter season unless it is fulfilled for a just cause at another time during the year.

So I suppose it’s just a question of whether or not one has a “just cause” to receive outside of the Easter season.

Of course, we should strive to be able to receive the Eucharist every time we go to Mass (at least once a week). 🙂
