Is it OK to receive Communion in the Easter vigil mass and then again Easter Sunday morning?

I like to commemorate my reception into the Church by attending the Easter Vigil at our Cathedral but my wife prefers the “shorter” Sunday morning mass. I would like to attend the vigil alone and then the Sunday morning mass with her. Is that OK?

Yes, it certainly is.

And it’s great that you attend both the Easter Vigil and Mass on Easter Sunday.

It’s a shame more people don’t attend the Easter Vigil, it’s the greatest day in the liturgical year.

A blessed and holy Triduum to you,

**Easter Saturday **is April 10
Huh? April 10, 2010 is not a Sunday.

Pyro - it is perfectable acceptable to receive communion on Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.

Ideally we are to receive the Eucharist every. single. day. But most of us do not go to daily mass.

Read more closely: he said “Easter Saturday”. That is the name given to the Saturday after Easter. Easter Monday, Easter Tuesday, …, Easter Saturday.

That is what I wrote but I meant this Saturday’s Easter Vigil Mass. Sorry about the confusion.

Since participating in a Saturday evening mass satisfies the Sunday obligation I thought it would be like receiving Communion twice in the same day which I have heard is forbidden or at least frowned upon.

I know, I was referring to Justin’s comment.

You are allowed to receive Holy Communion twice in one day, provided the second time is during a Mass in which you are participating.

Translation: if you receive Communion at Mass in the morning, you can’t receive at a (non-Mass) Communion service later in the day; but the other way around is okay.

As Japhy noted

for this purpose day is mid-night to mid-night. Thus on an ordinary weekend one could receive at a Saturday morning mass, the anticipated Sunday mass in the evening and at two masses on Sunday.
