 Another poster said Judas had left before he was served. But clearly Christ shared with him. After which Judas decided to go and betray and Christ told him to do it quickly. Then Judas left.

How do you ‘know’ that Scripture said that the Eucharist was to be offered to ‘all?’ Even Scripture in recording the words of Jesus do not say that the Eucharist is offered ‘for all’. For many, not 'for all.

I have clarified what I said, thank you. I’m sure you’ll catch it momentarily.

It is not completely certain that Judas did share in the last supper. But even if he did, he did not do so ‘worthily’ and suffered a fate I would not wish on anyone. Certainly the betrayal of Christ was ‘worse’ than sharing in a communion that Judas obviously WOULD NOT BELIEVE IN; but that doesn’t negate the sin. And sin it was, if Judas did receive.

Perhaps a future Holy Father will hear Jesus in Jn 6:37? "Everyone whom my Father gives me will come to me. I will never turn away anyone who comes to me. (GNT)
And who is being turned away? If they don’t believe that He is present in the Body and Blood… who is turning from whom?

Which Last Supper are you so certain about? In my Bible Luke quotes Jesus as saying 22:19 And taking bread, he gave thanks, and brake; and gave to them, saying: This is my body, which is given for you. Do this for a commemoration of me.

20 In like manner the chalice also, after he had supped, saying: This is the chalice, the new testament in my blood, which shall be shed for you.

21But yet behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.

Jn 13:26 Jesus answered: He it is to whom I shall reach bread dipped. And when he had dipped the bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot]

Matt, Read John 13:2 . 13: 18-19

John13:26 Jesus said " The one to whom I give the bit of food I dip in the dish" He dipped the morsel then took it and gave it to Judas. 27 Immediately after, Satan entered him…

It is very clear to me in these particular Scriptures, that Judas’ heart was sinning and Jesus knew it. God help us to understand the Truth. Carlan

What would Jesus do? Would Jesus turn people away? Did he ever turn people away? Of course not; He ate with sinners, tax collectors and all! I still do not get it!
I think you do get it.

WWJD? This is getting old and we’re going in circles. But Jesus tells us as clear as can be in Jn 6:37.

“Everyone whom my Father gives me will come to me. I will never turn away anyone who comes to me

I am accused of cherry picking but those are Jesus’ words as to WWJD. Just seems so clear to me I don’t know why we are even debating this point. 🤷

Well, my heart tells me, that if the disciples had let him pass by and not continued the discourse with him and not invited him into their home, showing their desire and faith in wanting to listen and learn and believe,he would not have revealed himself to them at the breaking of the bread. God bless us, Carlan
You confuse me Carlan, and take me back to my original question, because many faithful who have a burning desire to join Jesus and The Body of Christ at Communion are not welcome. Therefore, how can Jesus be made to them through the breaking of the bread?

Luke 24:30-31 - “When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him . . . .”

This passage makes it very clear that Jesus made himself known to to the Apostles through the breaking of the bread, not before!

Help me understand why the Church turns so many people away from our table, considering this passage and the fact that Jesus never turned sinners away. I still do not get it, and it breaks my heart.

Tantum, yep made it to your clarification. And I’m certain you are not judging and comparing the OP to Judas so nice save! 👍

Apryl, you could be assuming too much. I won’t roll my eyes at you though.

You know something I have never read in the Bible that said Communion to be perfect was only for Catholics. When Jesus had the last supper he did not say now this is only for Catholics.
Let us not forget: The Catholic Church did not come out of the Bible! 🙂

The Church, which was later known as Catholic, was the source of the Bible, not the other way around. 😛

And while Jesus was not QUOTED as saying that the supper was only for Catholics, the Church, which Christ founded, determined that it is. 😉

If that is what you believe good for you.

I could be… so how about you answer the question.

Which is it? Who is turning whom away?

(And my eyes weren’t rolling at you… I just thought that image was perfect for the statement) 🙂

I already did read those. 🤷 That’s even more reason to serve as I see it in my heart. Because not everyone approaching Jesus is Judas and yet even he was not turned away.

Well if the person believes Christ then sadly in this case I guess those deciding not to serve are the ones turning away. 😦

It is what I believe! 😃

What? you don’t ? But your profile says you are Catholic.

What do you believe then? Do you believe that the Catholic church is a product of the Bible? That the Bible existed before the Catholic Church?

If you believe this… that’s what you believe, I just don’t understand why this is what you believe. You have to put some logic into this.

Well, you don’t HAVE to put some logic in this, but it would help of you want to be understood. 😉

The first part of the story is where Jesus is opening the Scriptures to them, while they are still on the road. (Liturgy of the Word.) Protestants are always welcome to join us in the Liturgy of the Word.

When they had accepted His teachings in the Liturgy of the Word, He then gave them the Liturgy of the Eucharist, which was where they recognized Him in the breaking of the bread. But without the Word (teachings) coming first, they would never have recognized Him in the breaking of the bread.

He shared fellowship suppers with sinners and tax collectors; not Holy Communion. He only shared Holy Communion with His closest followers.
Judas betrayed Jesus, Peter denied him three times, and who of the rest of us who share Holy Communion are perfect followers? Did the Apostles accept the Liturgy of the Word on the Road to Emmaus, before they broke bread with Jesus? What does Luke tell us?

Luke 24:25 - "Then he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have declared!”

Yes, perhaps their hearts may have been burning while Jesus taught them about Moses and the prophets, but what did the Apostles tell others about how Jesus made himself known to them? (Luke 24:35).

 Oh no please please please please please please please please please please PLEEEEEEASE lets not open up that can of worms again and start debating who is and who is not a Catholic. I know some of you don’t like others calling themselves Catholic. And I do find that a bit odd considering you are usually the same ones who are so set on agreeing with everything else the Church says but then you have a problem with the Church’s definition of Catholic. But pleeeeeease lets not start that again. 😃

I am a Catholic who doesnot agree with all. I believe Jesus is THE product of the Bible.

Well, My dear sister in Christ you as a Catholic Christian are confusing to me, very much so, What can I say, if you believe it right for anyone, Catholic, separated brothers and sisters, or any one else who believe that the Holy Eucharist, the Body, Blood ,Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ is only a symbol and is not real and you receive him in Holy Mass you are committing serious sacrilege.
If you cannot accept what we are sharing with you here, if you believe we are wrong and that the Church is wrong, may I in all humility suggest you have the discussion with your parish priest, God Bless, Carlan
