is this permitted? as the person is not consious and cannot consent to the reception.
also, if a person cannot digest solid foods, can the precious blood be administered via feeding tube?

just speculating, popped into my head.

A person who is not consious should not receive the Eucharist. Anointing of the Sick administered every 4 to 6 weeks or when necessary brings great graces.

Sort of a related question: What about those who are conscious but whose memories are severly altered such as Alzheimers, etc.? How do we know they are aware what they are receiving?

Many do know that they are receiving Holy Communion and some that do not respond in any other way do respond with Amen when presented the Blessed Sacrament. I have seen this myself. It is up to the judgement of the pastor who should be seeing the sick and infirm every few weeks.

There was a dying boy in our parish who was in a vegatative state. The priest gave him annointing of the sick. Then to give him commumion he put a drop of the Precious Blood on his finger. Then the priest put his finger in the boy’s mouth. Immediately the boy responded. He lived another ten years.
