Is it pemissible for some EMHC’s (or the priest) to go to the back of the church to distribute communion (even if there is room near the sanctuary) if the priest thinks it will help with ‘traffic flow’?

This is a common practice in many larger parishes…There are “statons” throughout the church to help the flow.

My own parish, which has about htree thousand families, has all the EMHC’ s stationed around the altar…All come forward to recieve.

Our church at the moment, (praying to break ground on a new one soon), is divided into sections by accordian walls. When we open the back ones, one of the Priests or Deacons will go there to distribute. We actually kneel in the front and some will kneel back there even though there is no kneeler.
I don’t know for sure, but my parish is extremely “by the book” so perhaps there is nothing wrong with it.

Yes, it is permitted.

My ‘new’ parish used to do this, becuase its an EXTREMELY LARGE parish.

A pastor ago, they stopped the practice, becuase the pastor said its better to come FORWARD towards the Altar to recieve. It helps with the orientation and focus as well. It does make communion longer, but I’m okay with that.

Receiving our Lord in the Most Holy Eucharist is a very important and special time. If communion takes longer, so be it. Its not a rush. I see it as having more time to spend before or after receiving my Lord and focus on all that he has done.

That said, I’m usually an organist for one for the 5 weekend Masses we have, and it does make it harder with music to keep it flowing, so I opt at times to play a communion song and maybe a meditation song (Panis Angelus, Humbly we adore thee, etc) and then bask in the “Holy Silence” before the final prayer.
