Communion in the hand: Where?

This is not a debate about on the tongue or in the hand. Does anyone know where in the world communion on the hand is permitted besides the United States? Just curious.

I am in Canada,and as far as I have seen in my lifetime, receiving on the hand is most usual. Of course I have not yet attended a Latin mass, but there is only one church (to my knowledge) in my city where the Latin mass is offered.

When I had my First Communion (1971?) I was taught in Catholic school and in church to receive on the hand. My children have all been taught the same in recent years.

I have received on the hand in Australia, Mexico, Costa Rica, and many parts of the US (Ca, Utah, Hawaii) without feeling it was unusual.

I remember that everyone receive communion on the tongue in the 80’s when I had my first communion… I think a few years later, we were taught the proper way to receive with the hand.
Right now. personally receive by the tongue, for health reasons and to approach our Lord with more reverence (I have idiopathic palmar hyperhidrosis- sweaty palms)

From my experience, most of Latin America does not. They will make exceptions for tourists who don’t know any better , but most Latin American bishop’s conferences have not requested this indult.

Almost everywhere. I’ve been to Mass all over Asia and it is permitted. In Europe too.

Thanks, everyone. I received communion in Mexico, and no one received on the hand. I don’t know if it wasn’t allowed or just people’s cultural preference. It gives me a lot to think about, as I thought that it was mainly the English speaking world who had communion in the hand. This is a real eye-opener.

When this first started in the US…I did not like it, but then somehow, when all were doing it, I also took Communion in the hands. I later observed the growing disrespect for Jesus in the Eucharist…some leaving the host in bathrooms…sticking it in pockets (uneducated Catholics who did not know what to do). As I observed not only this disrespect, I noticed other growing problems such as no one kneeling before the Tabernacle etc etc.
Many of us now only receive on the tongue. When teaching CCD, I instruct the children in both forms as it is permitted, but I encourage them to receive on the tongue…as I feel it gives more honor to our Lord…and lets Him know how unworthy we are not only to receive Him, and that His priests should be the only one to touch His Sacred Body. My humble opinion.

That is correct, the Mexican Bishop’s conference has not requested this indult.

If an American tourist happens to attend Mass in Mexico and hold out his hand, mostly likely the priest won’t make an issue of it.

But, in general, one should not attempt to recieve in the hand unless one has general knowledge that it is permissible in that country.

I know that the Columbian Bishop’s Conference has also not requested this indult.

Communion in the hand is permitted in Venezuela.

I don’t know about Puerto Rico, but until at least 1994 it was not permitted there. The priest would make an announcement before Communion that it was not permitted.

I know it is permitted in the English speaking Caribbean Islands, and also in Dominican Republic.

We have been told that there is no indult for Communion in the hand in Mexico. In CCE, since we have a lot of kids whose families travel back and forth, we remind them of this.
