You have perhaps read very quickly and so have mis-read what I wrote.
I did not say that the people changed to CITH out of obedience, but that they had received on the tongue for many years out of obedience.
Receiving in the hand certainly was not proposed as a ‘must do’. It was presented as a choice, which the majority glady adopted.
