The Church allows you to receive on the tongue or in the hand, as you choose. There have been innumerable threads on this subject here at CAF. It has acquired the status of an Old Reliable. Here’s a link to the most recent one:

Hand or tongue, with Precious Blood or without Liturgy and Sacraments
Tomorrow morning, I will receive Holy Communion for the first time in over 40 years. But since the last time I received communion, the distribution has changed quite a bit. Back when I last received the sacrament, you could only receive it by having the priest place it on your tongue. Now, you can the sacrament on your tongue or have it placed in your hand, and then you place it in your mouth. Also, you can have wine now. Though I am ready to receive the communion, I have not decided what I…

The catechism teaches either way and no one is to refuse you on that basis

Not really as long as your hand is clean and make sure that NO small particles will be dropped on the floor because of it, it’s ok. But I’ve never tried it before it was forced unto me by and EMHC I didn’t expect it he just place it on my hand. I was shocked and back then I thought it was wrong very wrong! It even made me go to confession and the priest told me it wasn’t but if my hands were clean.

If you search the forum you will find reams of opinions on this issue. Wear an apron so you don’t get mud on you.

Certain localities have permission to receive in the hand, but only where there is not a risk of profanation:
[92.] Although each of the faithful always has the right to receive Holy Communion on the tongue, at his choice,[178] if any communicant should wish to receive the Sacrament in the hand, in areas where the Bishops’ Conference with the recognitio of the Apostolic See has given permission, the sacred host is to be administered to him or her. However, special care should be taken to ensure that the host is consumed by the communicant in the presence of the minister, so that no one goes away carrying the Eucharistic species in his hand. If there is a risk of profanation, then Holy Communion should not be given in the hand to the faithful.[179]

It began as a liturgical abuse until about the 1960’s. It was common practice against the wishes of the Church in Holland for many years. Eventually, the Church gave permission to receive in the hand, though there has been express of unintended consequences of it (sacrilege, loss of belief in the true presence, etc).

The most ancient form of receiving was in the hand, though it meant having a cloth on the hands and not taking it with their fingers – instead, they would bend their head to their hands to receive it. The early Church made an official change to receive on the tongue when issues began to arise this way – it was more of a practical adjustment to ensure the host was protected.

So no, it is not a sin and is allowed.

I’ve received on the hand only once. I mainly did it because there was an extraordinary minister who I thought wouldn’t like it if I did it on the tongue. I held out my hands and the EM put it there so forcefully that the Host broke in half. Weird experience. I’ve received on the tongue ever since.

There have been topics on this already. It would cause a storm, but most already gave the answer.

There isnt one holy way to take communion, tongue and hand is fine. Popular being taking communion on the tongue, me personally I started to take by hand. Either way, there is nothing stopping you from taking by hand. Tongue is just the most common way to take Christ.

is it allowed?
What country are you in?

In the United States and many other countries, the answer is yes.

From the GIRM as adapted for the US:
  1. The Priest then takes the paten or ciborium and approaches the communicants, who usually come up in procession.
It is not permitted for the faithful to take the consecrated Bread or the sacred chalice by themselves and, still less, to hand them on from one to another among themselves. The norm established for the Dioceses of the United States of America is that Holy Communion is to be received standing, unless an individual member of the faithful wishes to receive Communion while kneeling (Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, Instruction, Redemptionis Sacramentum, March 25, 2004, no. 91).

When receiving Holy Communion, the communicant bows his or her head before the Sacrament as a gesture of reverence and receives the Body of the Lord from the minister. The consecrated host may be received either on the tongue or in the hand, at the discretion of each communicant. When Holy Communion is received under both kinds, the sign of reverence is also made before receiving the Precious Blood.
