Communion, invalid marriage, help asap!

I just want to make sure I have this right.

My husband was baptized Catholic, had a 1st marriage outside of the church, then divorced, then we got married outside of the church. I was also baptized Catholic. We’ve both had our 1st communions a long time ago.

Now we are now returning to the Catholic Church together. We have put in the paperwork for an “annulment” and are living as brother and sister until the time when we can have the convalidation. We have also gone to confession and been absolved and told our priest our intentions until the time of the convalidation.

My question is: My understanding is that we can we both receive communion now… right?

Yes -if you have been to confession and are now living as brother and sister you can go to communion.

Your pastor will have to give you permission. The reason for this is not everyone in the parish knows the details of your situation, and it may cause confusion if people see you receiving Holy Communion. It has to be his judgement. Now if you go to a parish where you are not known, you could.

my hat is off to you for living chastely. that is grace working in your lives - a rare grace.

even if the priest asks you to refrain from communion, use that time the same way you are using your time of chastity - as a time of reflection for god’s will in your lives. Spiritual communions can be moments of incredible growth in one’s faith.

Rest in the fact that you are following God’s will right now. If you are asked to refrain, that, too, is His will, and He will not test you more than you can handle.
