If your parish sings songs/hymns at Communion time, about how many songs does it take to get through Communion time?

I have almost never heard more than one song at communion time. Often not even getting through one entire song, but if more time is needed usually a verse or two of just instrumental is played until the priest sits down.

We have one congregational song and one sung by the choir. Once in a great while both are completed and the pianist will continue to play but that is rare.

It depends on how many people are receiving the Eucharist and the number of priests and EMHCs distributing. Most of the time, where I attend mass and at other places I’ve attended, they get through one hymn. If the line is much longer than expected, the organist will play softly, either improvisation or a composed instrumental piece.

When there are special masses such as during the holy days, feast days, etc., the music director/organist/etc. will usually plan more than one hymn - sometimes 2 or 3.

We only sing one. And I am grateful when it ends soon enough to leave time for silence conducive to private prayer of thanksgiving after Communion.

We have a fairly large parish. Almost 1,500 per Mass, and we have 5 masses on Sunday alone. Communion can be rather long and we will sing a minimum of 2 songs every time, and sometimes after the second the pianist will still play softly for a few minutes. Then the vessels have to be purified and then the priest will sit. We sit near the front so I offer up my sore knees for the suffering souls in purgatory:love:
