Hi
I have to send a letter to the Church for my Godson who is receiving Communion. I am not sure what is suppose to be in the letter. Can someone please let me know what should be in the letter.
Thanks
CJ

Is that really all you were told? You weren’t told why or what the topic of the letter was supposed to be? Who told you to write it? Can you contact the person who told you to write the letter and find out more?

The only thing I’ve heard that sounds anything like this is a case where the child’s baptismal certificate couldn’t be obtained, so the godparents were asked to write that they witnessed the child’s baptism.

Often Godparents are asked to write a letter to a child and send it to the church (or school or religious education program) to give to the child upon his First Communion. A way to bond with the child, express your love for them, pass on some of your spiritual thoughts, praise them, etc.

Kind of a nice idea, when it works. So many Godparents are close to a family when the child is born, but not later on in their life. It can offer a rare chance to connect.

Thanks for your reply. The childs father(my brother) told me of the letter. I asked what was to be in the letter, but he didn’t know. The godmother also was to write a letter. I do not believe that the documents of Baptism are in question.

This is the only thing to comes to mind.🤷

Was your Godson baptised Catholic? Is your brother a Catholic? I see that you are a protestant and as such, to be a Godparent of your nephew couldn’t have been a Catholic baptism. The only way that could be is one of two things, either your nephew is a convert or you were a Catholic at the time of his baptism.🤷
Please understand, I am not saying your nephew’s baptism is not legal.

You really do need to find out more information as to what the Church wants from you.🤷
