I am wondering since the Catholic church is the true church and only priests can change the host and wine into the body and blood of Jesus, does it stand to reason that other faiths are not really, truly receiving the Sacrament that we as Catholics do?

Only validly ordained clergy who have Apostolic Succession can convoke the Blessed Sacrament. This includes the Orthodox Church of the 7 Ecumenical Councils and the anti-Chalcedonian Orthodox Churches as well as the Assyrian Church of the East in addition to the Catholic Church.*

Does this mean that other faiths (not Roman Catholic) are not receiving thebody and blood of Christ when they celebrate their “communion”?

Yes, it does. (In most cases. There are certain exceptions, but they are extremely rare.)

That’s correct, they are not.
So says Catholic doctrine.

But others would disagree.

I am not personally insulted however I can understand how others could be insulted by your carte blanche “they are not.”

Please do not forget our Orthodox brothers. It is only Protestants that lack the authority. Orthodox are legit.

How could I have worded the question better?
That the Catholic church is the"only true church" is a Catholic teaching. Whtehr it is right or wrong you must respect the fact that as many people who believe that, do NOT believe that. The first line in your post can be construed as haughty and inflammatory whether you meant it to be or not. One could (mis)interpret it as a subtle deriding of any non-Catholic Christian denomination. For instance, when I have attened Lutheran service, I do not feel as if I am not in a true church. Also, when I have taken communion, I do not feel it is false. In the future I suggest you try to be a little more conciliatory. Perhaps you could have started with “As we Catholics believe we are the true church…”

Remember you posted this in the non-Catholic religions forum.

I am personal friends with many Catholics and they would be disgusted that as a catholic you are leaving my protestant selfout in the cold.

Protestants put themselves out in the cold, nearly 500 years ago - it was they who rejected the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, and they who deliberately got rid of the validly ordained priesthood in their churches.

The door is still open, though, and the light is still on after all these years - come home!! 🙂

You’re a zealot and you do a disservice to your faith. The Pope has more a civil outlook on MAINSTREAM Protestantism than you do.

I am quite certain that the Pope does not think that Protestants have a valid Eucharist, in the sense meant by the Catholic Church.

Many Protestants view it as only an ordinance, and even those who call it a Sacrament would freely tell you that the bread and wine are only symbols of Christ, and not really Him in person.

Watch how they treat the remaining bread and wine after their services of Holy Communion to see what I mean - a lot of them actually throw it in the garbage, and those that don’t do that do things like make turkey stuffing out of it, or give it to the children to eat, etc. They certainly don’t reserve it carefully in a Tabernacle, or anything like that.

I said has a more civil outlook. I said nothing of disrgarding the doctrine ofhis own church.

I am offended that according to you everything I do in church is phony. Who says you are right? You will tell me scripture, or the apostles, or Peter or Paul or gasp the Pope. So? Do not a million others who believe differently use the same “proof?” minus the Pope of course…

Truth is you have as much right to condemn my faith as I have tocondemn yours. Do I have the right?

When did I “condemn” your faith? 🤷

If you believe that the Eucharist is merely symbolic, then how could it possibly matter to you whether it is valid, or not? 🤷

Aparently it matters a great deal to you, to the point where you see me “left out in the cold” and to the point where out of the kindness of your heart you otell methat I would be “welcomed back.” Don’t play words games with me. Be plain and truthful.

This of course is the Catholic view which is not shared by Protestants. God is not constrained to operating only through those who have “Apostolic Succession.” I have full faith and confidence that God can and does provide all the benefits He intended for the sacrament to those who receive it in Protestant churches. Protestants, who treat communion as a sacrement, believe that Christ is present in a real way but how is a mystery. If that mystery is the real presence of Christ, then I don’t believe our accepting that Christ is present in some mysterious way affects what God actually works in the sacrament.

I have no doubt that Catholics will disagree with my view but it won’t affect my belief.

No doubt that Christ is generous to Protestants with many graces. I know some very good Protestants who love God with all their heart and soul. It’s the unfaithful Catholics that I really pity. They have been given so much but reject it for temporary earthly pleasures.
