Communion on the Tongue- a very vaild reason!

I think the threat of Satanic Masses is way overblown.

Anyway, it is easy to buy host wafers in bulk, a simple drive over to Cokesbury would get them what they need. If a person is actually Satanic, really, they don’t believe in God like we do and do not expect retribution from God. The host is just symbolic then and does not actually require consecration, because to them the host is not really consecrated anyway.

As Catholics we should live and practice our faith without being influenced by signs and wonders, or fear and trepidation.

Christ came to set us free.

Whatever indignity can occur to a host consecrated or otherwise has already been heaped upon the living body of Christ who has already died (and risen) for all our sins.

I am not suggesting laxity or a frivolous approach to communion, however, evil people do evil things. Just because kids break windows, for example, doesn’t mean that we should avoid having windows in churches.

A real black mass is a Mass in reverse, in which they try to unconsecrate a consecrated host. Buying hosts in bulk therefor really doesn’t do them any good.

Real satanists acknowledge that God exists and recognize Jesus for who he is. They recognize the Eucharist for what it really is. Real satanists however, choose Satan, and try to say the Mass in reverse, to unconsecrate a consecrated host.

99.99999% of the people we think of as satanists are more correctly into wiccan spirituality, earth spirits, voodoo, various forms of occult, witchcraft, and such nonsense. They don’t recognize Jesus for who he really is and for the most part couldn’t care less about the Eucharist. Many of them do it because these practices embrace sexual promiscuity as a legitimate expression of their religion. Many are into it for the sex.

99.99999% of the people who identify themselves as satanists are really just pot smoking 27 year old’s who listen to Norweigian heavy metal and still live with their parents. They are more concerned with what band they are going to see on Saturday Night and about getting pulled over with a joint in the ashtray than they are about the Eucharist. They sleep too late to get to Mass anyway.

A real satanist, the ones who we think of as stealing the Eucharist for a “Black Mass”, these acknowledge God, Jesus, the Church and the Eucharist, but choose satan instead, and try to say Mass in reverse. These are few and far between, and I totally agree, that the threat is way overblown.

As an EMHC, I think people approaching the altar to recieve while chewing gum is a bigger threat to the dignity of the Sacrament than is stealing the host for black masses.

communion on the tongue is better because it helps avoid situations where Christ is going to be dispresected or mishandled in some way. People may have dirty hands, people may have children in their hands causing it be a strange situation, and also it prevents people from taking the host away, well most people at-least. This devil think I suspect would be rare I would hope. But tongue will prevent bad things from happening to our lord and savior.
Neither my wife or I have ever had an issue receiving in the hand while holding a child. People with small children learn how to perform complex tasks while holding children.

People have dirty mouths too.

Should we check that they’ve flossed and brushed before they come up to receive OTT?
Maybe we could have a mouthwash station too?😉

All that really counts is a clean heart.

Not to mention the fact of what just took place earlier…the exchange of peace. After shaking half a dozen hands of so, it really makes more hygenic sense as well.

This reminds me of the FaceBook graphics which go around, trying to compel people to do something, such as share a posted graphic: “Share this if you love God. Ignore if you love Satan.”

How hygenic can the priest’s hands be after being so close to people’s mouths [one of the least hygenic parts of our body]?

I believe that the bacteria on the hands of other people are cleaner and holier than the bacteria on my own tongue.

But taking what you say as true, what of the priest who offers the sign of peace to others? Should he just lick people instead of offering his hand in peace since it’s . . . more hygenic?

ProVobis, I wasn’t trying to label anyone. This has been/is a problem that has been definitely identified by the respective parish priests based on past incidents.

My intent was not trying to scare anyone or cause scandal, but apparently it is something that can happen. I apologize if I offended anyone.
I hear you. But I think the CITH people, if I’m permitted to use a label, do have a point. But maybe only because CITH is watched more carefully than COTT, which seems to be a more private issue, especially if there is a communion rail involved. It is true that those who wish to abuse the sacrament will find a way to do it, given the right opportunity.

They have a technique of getting the Host out even if they received on the tongue. I mean, they didn’t start existing just in recent history where CITH was used in the Roman Catholic Church. So Communion on the tongue unfortunately won’t deter such group.
Perhaps a decreased reliance on Extraordinary Ministers would help. Sometimes there is a veritable army of EMs in non-extraordinary circumstances. A member of the ordained clergy is in my opinion better able to spot and deal with such abuses against our Lord, present in the Holy Eucharist.

I know someone who is a frequent EM who has told me that they have seen people pocket the Host after receiving it and that they (the EM) didn’t know how to handle the situation (should they call out to the person, shout to the Priest if he’s around, stop the Communion line and go for the tackle take down 😃 etc…), or indeed, if anything at all could be done.

IMHO Communion on the tongue while kneeling given only by the ordained clergy celebrating the Mass would be the most effective way to curtail (but not eliminate) such atrocities, though I suspect there will be those who will disagree with me on this point (let’s agree to disagree if that’s the case so as to avoid the controversial CITH vs COTT kneeling debate that ultimately no one can win). 🙂

Pray for vocations and encourage them in our own families.

Otherwise we are going to be relying on laity for a long time.

I think just having a better training program for EMs would be a more rational response for the issue you stated. If someone is intent on walking off with the Eucharist, receiving on the tongue instead of in the hand won’t stop them.

There’s really no debate. The Church allows for both methods of receiving the Holy Eucharist, and only those who think they know better than the Magisterium want to change what the Church allows, which seems inordinate in some way.

There is so much more that we can say in favor of COTT than for just detering Satanic groups.

You’re not obligated to stay on the thread. But thanks for the snarky remark. Peace be with you.

In another thread, I asked for evidence of this plague of devil worshipers showing up for Mass to get their “dirty” little paws on the Host and I have yet to see any evidence that substantiates this claim.

I speculate that this is a new angle of using scare tactics against CITH.

Also, seriously, does no one pray after receiving??? It seems everyone is “spectating” when heads are to be down praying or in a hymnal or at the very least looking reverent.

Because said parishes have caught them doing it.
How fanciful.

No one who is caught taking the Eucharist can be forced to identify themselves or be detained in any way. The most that can be done is for them to be told to consume it.

I do not doubt that some have reported this but I would bet what they are reporting is out of their twisted imagination.

With out facts and figures to back up such statements they amount to nothing.

I don’t doubt that some satanist have tried this or have even done it but I doubt it is very widespread as so implied in this thread. They are a small group compared to any other religious group I doubt that they are spread out enough to affect so many parishes.

Nope. And yes, it’s supposition on my part, based on common sense.
Common sense is not all that common.

Common sense tells me that anyone wanting to steal the Eucharist to desecrate it would, after doing research and seeing threads on forums like these, they would receive on the tongue as they know that people will not watch them as closely as they appear to follow the doing of those who receive in the hand. They would then spit it out when no one is looking and by these sorts of threads people are encouraged not to place those who receive on the tongue under any scrutiny.

Two problems with this, 1) you are giving those sort of people some great advice on how to do it and 2) no one should be focusing their attention on other and how they receive at the time of reception of the Eucharist. That is the job of the priest, EMHCs, and ushers.

The other ladies mentioned that most of their members of their parish receive in the hand and expressed that they wish they didn’t because…
All is vanity. A person can wish all they want to, but when the Church allows something then the discussion is over for the laity, no?
