Communion on the Tongue question?

Hi there,

I don’t know what it was, but I was just completely out of it at the Easter Vigil today. When I got up to recieve Commuinion, I could not keep my mouth open, and I almost caused the priest to drop the Host. I feel very bad. My mom told me to just recieve Communion in the Hand, but I truly want to reverence Jesus more in the Most Blessed Sacrament, I was just having a very off day. Did I do anything wrong, and should I go to Confession?

You’ve done nothing wrong, no worries. You have not committed a sin, nor would you have if Jesus was dropped (unless your intention was so). I’ve had Jesus dropped, and have seen it happen several times (unfortunately) both by priests and laity. Yes, this is bad, but Jesus knows this happens and turns bread into His body anyway. If this ever does happen, immediately (as soon as possible) wipe the ground with Holy water and consume the entire Host.

Open your mouth wide, stick your tongue out as far as it can go, and tilt your head back (this is important), and it should never be a problem. One thing to note, you are not receiving “more” of Jesus when you receive on the tongue, though that doesn’t mean there isn’t a better way to receive Him.
