I was baptized a Catholic as a baby, but never went through the formal instruction to receive First Communion. As I am a teenager, I went to Mass for a while without receiving communion until a family member told one of the priests about my situation. The priest then told me that I could receive communion the from then on, so I have been since. I was just wondering if this is okay because I don’t want to have to attend RCIA when I’m not even officially an adult yet so I haven’t pressed the matter, but it has been nagging me in the back of my mind for a while. I have been attending confession when I need to ever since I’ve started taking communion, although I never had a formal “First Confession”. I should add that I know my faith very well, and am attending CCD now to prepare for Confirmation with the rest of the parish teens in my grade.

I think you are right on track! A priest is helping you, so you have already received communion and the classes will get you through confirmation.

I am really sorry that your Solemn First Communion was not celebrated in a manner befitting the miracle of your first reception of the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ. You are not being served well and would recommend

What was the objection to RCIA?

OP, I don’t think that you have anything to worry about. You are on track to be Confirmed, as you should be. Many parishes/schools have a “First Communion” ceremony with white dresses, but this is not essential. Perhaps you did not get the best childhood religious instruction; but you say that you know your faith well, so it worked out. We all follow somewhat different paths to Christ.
