Communion Service?

Father Jim is out this week until tomorrow so tonight before RCIA there will be a “communion service” and stations of the cross.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a communion service?
 
A communion service is exactly like the mass in procedure, except there is no consecration. You have the Liturgy of the Word, the Prayers of the Faithful, and then you go right into communion. It’s like on Good Friday, from what I understand.
 
The communion that you receive will have been properly consecrated though at a prior service and put aside for use at the service you attend. It is sometimes referred to as reserved sacrament.
 
I went to a roman catholic church during communion once, and I was denied… How was I suppose to know that you are meant to be a catholic to do it? 🤷

How do you mean you were denied, Zundra?

How did the priest know you were not a Catholic?
 
It isn’t just you. All non-Catholics should be denied communion if the priest knows that the person is not Catholic. That is because someone who has not professed their faith as a Catholic does not believe as we do that the Host is the actual Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ. It is to protect the person from desecrating the Body and Blood of Christ.

Perhaps the priest suspected you weren’t Catholic because of your behavior (nothing weird, just not knowing what was going on at Mass) or because the parish was small enough that he didn’t recognize you. Whatever the cause, was you stated that you weren’t Catholic, he could not give you communion.

Please contact that priest or your local parish to get information about instruction to join the faith. We welcome you!

😛 …I wasn’t offended by him denying me communion, I just didn’t understand anything, that’s all…

Canon Law permits members of the Orthodox churches to receive in the Catholic Church.

The Orthodox churches have valid sacraments and orders, and share the same beliefs as Catholics about the Eucharist.

My observation of people going to communion at a catholic mass is at the given moment everyone files up to the alter, sharpish, and recieve, one after the other, in reasonably quick time. So what was it about your demenour or behavor that made the priest stop in his tracks and stare at you, then ask if you were a catholic or not :confused:

I’m having a hard time believing that story.

…I am getting very tired of people not believing a word I say…

He knew I wasn’t catholic because obviously he knows every one who attends that church! I can’t read his mind can I? Maybe I was suppose to say somehting to him and I didn’t, or perhaps he could see how awkward I felt?

Makes no sense. Churchs must have loads people that are visitors, every week. I’ll bet none of them get stopped and stared at by the priest and then questioned if they are a catholic. I’m quite sure the priests default position on the communicants is that they are catholics, that’s why they are comming to receive the host in the first place.

But, if you say so :rolleyes:

At least you now know for sure you can’t receive the host unless you are in full communion with the Catholic Church.

So you still don’t believe me…? 🤷
It was my first time at a roman catholic chruch. My methodist church was the only church I ever knew. It’s that type of church that makes catholics run screaming! 😛

1 - Christian rock music for worship…
2 - Music festivals for church outings (that also inluced christian rock music)…
3 - We preached the gospel and nothing else really.
4 - Most sunday services consisted of christians giving their testimonies.
