Stop quibbling over definitions, for goodness’ sakes. You are way off the topic of this thread.
Off topic, yes.

But I would prefer more quibbling over definitions than less. The failure to to have agreement about definitions is one of biggest causes of further misunderstandings.

Roman Catholic is generally considered to be synonymous with Latin Catholic and Western Catholic. While the pope is the head of the entire Catholic Church he does have a “special” (for lack of a better word) role for the Western/Latin/Roman Church.

You’re quite right. In addition to being the Vicar of Christ on Earth he is also the Archbishop of Rome. Nevertheless, that makes him the Earthly head of the entire Catholic Church and not merely the “Roman Catholic Church.”

The comment:
…We are the Roman Catholic Church, not the (insert name of parish or diocese) Catholic Church…
is simply wrong. While that is the definition favored by many non-Catholic Christians, we (Catholic Christians) are the Catholic Church not the “Roman Catholic Church.” An extremely important distinction.

There are many Catholic Christians in full/perfect communion with the Pope of Rome that are in no way “Roman Catholic.” To suggest the Pope of Rome is the earthly head of the “Roman Catholic Church” and not the entire Catholic Church is both ignorant and insulting.
So now you accuse be of being insulting and ignorant? Simply because I express something that you disagree with. That is way out of order.

The Pope governs the entire Church on Earth through the** Roman** Curia.

The Pope as the bishop of Rome is the supreme head of the Church on Earth. The Eastern Church bows to the Bishop of Rome. The Partriarchs of the Eastern Church are subservient to the authority of the Pope, as the Supreme Pontif, the bishop of Rome (as are we all).

The universal Catholic Church on Earth which the Pope heads IS the Roman Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Church includes both the Western (Latin) and Eastern Catholic Churches. The term Roman Catholic Church is synonymous with The Catholic Church.

To be called ignorant and insulting simply for referring to our Church as the Roman Catholic Church is way out of order.

We ARE the ROMAN Catholic Church. The supreme authority on Earth is, and will always be, the Bishop of Rome.

Nothing you have offered supports your personal belief.

You might well be a Latin Rite Catholic and thus a member of the “Roman Catholic Church” using your parlance. That doesn’t mean however that the Pope is limited to being the earthly head of only the western half of the Catholic Church. He is the earthly head of the entire Catholic Church.

The Mystical Body of Christ on Earth is the Catholic Church, not the Roman Catholic Church.

The misinformation that you are trying to spread is precisely what offends and divides members of sui juris Eastern Catholic churches and the Orthodox.

And for what it’s worth, the “supreme authority on Earth” is God. Always has been, always will be.

You know the term “Roman Catholic” is fairly new…it has been in use less than 150 years. It was first used as an insult by the Anglicans.

Nowhere in official church documents is the Catholic church referred to as the “Roman Catholic” Church.

Your posts here on the topic of he Pope are highly offensive to us Eastern Catholics. We choose to be in communion with the holy father, we do NOT now to him as you put it…our are we governed by him thru the Roman curia…we are governed by our own hierarchies and synod.
Please takes the time to learn a bit about the Eastern Catholic Churches before commenting on us again.
Thanks!
