Communion

I have three children out of wedlock. I have an active relationship with all of them, but am no longer involved with their mother. I feel it would be detrimental to myself and my children to marry this woman. My question is, am I allowed to receive communion after confession of these acts, or am I forbidden (excommunicated) from participation in this process?

The whole point of going to confession and receiving absolution is that you are then able to receive Communion. However, if you’re not sure, just ask the priest about it when you are making your confession. 🙂

Fathering children without the benefit of marriage is not an offense for which excommunication may be meted out. At the same time, it is a serious sin which must be confessed. The priest to whom you confess will be able to guide you in what must be done. As a generic answer you *should *be able to receive communion following your confession and the completion of any penance that is given to you.
