i was born into a family who went to the Church of Christ, faithfully. Communion was a very important time, participated in after baptism, and offered each Sunday. I have fallen away from the church, visited many others, and the Catholic Church seems to be the only one that views this “activity” as centrally important as I. This is one of the main reasons I am studying the Catholic faith, and contemplating converting. Any comments?

Thank you for your support…I feel kind of alone, even tho I know I’m never alone. I’ve been listening to EWTN catholic radio, and that helps.

Welcome to CAF. It is wonderful that you are seeking the Truths of the Catholic Church. Please get some books on the Early Church Fathers and there are many books by former Protestants that might also be of help. I am sure that others here will be able to guide you much better than I on what books to read.

You might want to speak to a priest and ask about starting RCIA. There are many who attend RCIA to learn what the Church teaches, but no one is pushed into becoming Catholic. If you decide to attend RCIA, you might want to ask questions of CAF members after attending a few sessions to make sure that the one your attending is teaching the fullness of the Faith. Sometimes there are parishes where RCIA is not as adequate as others in explaining the Faith and these forums can advise you.

Hopefully you will make friends in RCIA and that will help your loneliness. I think we all feel alone at times. I also am a convert to the Church and feel very blessed.

If communion is that important to you then you have found a home here in The church.
The Eucharist is central to the faith.
What is even better is that, communion in the Catholic Church IS Christ and not just a symbolic “remembrance”.

I was also raised in the Church of Christ, and I completely agree that communion was central to worship. It was that devotion to the Lord’s Supper that first led me to accept the Catholic belief in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

A good book to read is “Christ in His Fullness” by Bruce Sullivan. He was a Church of Christ preacher who converted to the Catholic Church.

I would recommend Scott Hahn’s Lambs Supper. It is a good starting point on what the Eucharist is and what it means and how it fits into the mass. The Eucharist is central to Catholic worship and every time we go to Mass we are in unison with Heaven. You will see what I mean if you read the book.

I’m sure your research will lead you home for truth carries grace ;).

Oh ScarlettAnn, I pray that you will soon find your way home to the Catholic Church!

As you probably know, in the Catholic Church the bread and wine become the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ. (This is a miracle make possible through Apostolic succession – Jesus gave that power to his 12 apostles and has been passed down through the centuries to today’s bishops and priests.)

What I wanted to share with you is this:
Since the Host is actually Jesus (not a symbol) not only do we consume Him, we also have times of ‘Adoration’ where we simply sit with Him exposed on the alter.
The other night while at Adoration I began to repeat the Sanctus (Holy, holy, holy Lord God of Hosts …).
Repeating those words reminded me of the picture of heaven in the book of Revelation of the heavenly hosts adoring the Lamb upon His throne. I then became aware of the fact that we were all (saints, cherubim, other parishioners,etc) in His presence and adoring him at the same time! (The Communion of the Saints.) That thought has not left me and I share it whenever possible.

So the Eucharist in the Catholic Church is really special.
It is really Jesus – Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.
If you feel that ‘communion’ is calling you IT REALLY IS JESUS CALLING YOU!!! :):)🙂

If the Eucharist (Communion) is something that is extremely important to you, then I say: Welcome, you are definitely in the right place. To us Catholics we even refer to the Eucharist as “The source and summit of the Christian life.” (CCC 1324)

We’d love to have you join us since we too come from the Church of Christ. You’re not alone here. There is a growing number of the Lord’s church that are converting to Catholicism as they too see the fullness of faith in the Catholic Church. You are the main reason I come to this forum. I’m always looking for struggling Christians, especially those that are from our former faith. We have a unique perspective on Church and many of our beliefs come really close to Catholicism once we get past the gag effect.

Hi Scarlett have you attended a Mass before? Take a look at your nearest Catholic Church and find out when their Mass times are & go along.Sit at the back if you want to just see & feel what happens. If i lived near you i would take you with me LOL! You are very welcome to come and observe and learn.Then after the Mass you could speak to a priest when you are ready & tell him you are interested in learning more about the Catholic faith.He will be really pleased to talk to you

Bruce Sullivan is a great guy. A prankster. I haven’t spoken to him in a while but I like to check with him once in a while. Great family man.

I HAVE ordered the book Christ in His Fullness, and I have copied the prayer to the Holy Spirit that was left for me…I BELIEVE I am following where the Holy Spirit is leading; my life is already turning around, in ways that probably only I can see but FEEL and KNOW…HE is moving in my life, and giving me opportunities to touch others. scarlettann

I also recommend Scott Hahn’s book The Lamb’s Supper.

I have watched Scott Hahn’s video The Hunt for the Fourth Cup and found it explained the Jewish background to the Last Supper.
