Their U.S. novitiate is actually in Peoria, IL. They are a wonderful, wonderful contemplative community, based in France, with a special charism in philosophy and mystical theology. I never discerned a vocation with them, but I worked for them for several years. You can PM me with questions if you like!

I am a former Brother of St John,(was with them 2 and 1/2 years in usa and France) a good groups of Brothers, and Sisters!!( they now have Apostolic Sisters in NJ as well. The American Novitiate is i Illinois.One must be drawn to teaching in some form , learn French , deep Philsophy, very Aristotelian and super Thomistic but in an non-apologetic way… with the late Fr. Marie Dominque Phillipes interpretation , which is not for everyone .
they had some problems in Europe, that are pretty much over now, and that came from their newness, and perhaps growing to quickly to young…BUT i would recommend them to anyone who has the call…they are very very active in general, kind of a mix of Discalced Carmelites meet the Dominicans.
