Peace and Good!
Only now I realize that your from Florida!.. As Im new to America, and in Australia the distances are relatively far… It seems that Florida isn’t so far from here at Luisiana…! It’s our first time here in the USA and we have to start the experience of hitchhiking here.* Is it true that in some states it’s illegal to hitchhike?*
Hi Brother-welcome to America!

Yes, in some states it’s illegal to hitchhike. For instance, in my state of New York it’s illegal.

If you start ‘thumbing it’ on American roads, be VERY CAREFUL about accepting rides. There have been too many ‘horror stories’ of hitchhikers getting raped [in the case of females] and/or murdered. Too many ‘crazy and unbalanced’ people out there.

So don’t be ‘too trusting’, all right? Use prudence and care out on the roads.

And see the info that Thomas Eugene gave you on American hitchhiking laws too!

Many Franciscans do use this as a mode of travel around the United States. You do want to be aware that the distances in the United States are far greater than they are in Europe. Depending on which airport you come into in Florida, you can be as close to New Orleans as three hours from Pensacola to New Orleans(270 km). The largest number of flights coming from Europe come into Miami or Fort Lauderdale. The distance from Miami to to New Orleans is about 1400 km. Driving that would be about 14 hours. The difficutl part is that it is very hot at this time of year. The good part is that the people in that part of the country are very friendly.

Fraternally,

Br. JR, OSF 🙂

***Peace and Good! (Pace e bene !) ***We still have to give the hich hiking a shot, as we arrived in New Orleans about a week ago. Invited by the bishop, I am housed in the Rectory of a parish, and I’ve almost done noththing but try to organise our Religious visas. We’ve got a bit of work to do!..
Thank you all for this wonderful help that you have all been giving us.
(Ps. Your Italian is better than mine!.. I’m Australian, and have been in Italy the last 8 years, but yet have difficulty writting perfectly!..)
Best Wishes of Holiness and Beatific Immortality…
(Auguri di Santità e Beata Immortalita.)

Pax et Bonum Frater!

Thank you for the compliment on my Italian. I was a theology student in Rome, many many years ago.

You are in our prayers. Keep in mind that you have family among the Franciscan Brothers of Life. If we can serve you in any way, please ask. We don’t have much; but we are willing to share, even if it’s a slice of bread and a corner on the floor along with us. I will order rmy brothers to begin a novena for your work.

Your brother in St. Francis,

Br. JR, OSF

A Novena for our dear Poor Friars

***Poor Friars here to Christ obey,
Both sisters and brothers following The Way,
May the light so shine which you embrace,
And be a comfort to each passing face.

Through journeys near and far from home,
You never know where you may roam,
To follow Father Francis on this Earth,
Be always a witness to that “Second Birth!”

So as we come before the Lord,
In our hearts to you we afford,
A prayer of thanksgiving, a prayer of peace,
With brotherly love, on our knees.

Pax et Bonum Brothers and Sisters! :)🙂

Pace e Bene !!!
Thank you Br. JR, (OSF) for your invitation ! It has happened that in our travels and in asking for hospitality people have also refused us a place to stay because they say that they have “no place in the in”… and some times we’ve had to sleep outside… Your invitation is truly heart warming, because as we say, “even a hard and stale piece of bread is enough if it’s given with all ones heart…” A friar of our community once had a dream during the night where he heard a voice saying: “When there’s space in ones heart, there’s space in their car” (in regards to hitchhiking) ! The Lord thank you truly (Cf. Mt 10, 42)
Thank you “wxboss” for your beautiful prayer… God willing with also thanks to your prayers we are to organise a more stable situation here in the US. Please, really even more… Pray for us. (like wise, the Lord thank you).

To all who happen to read this, just a little note to say that **we’ve renewed the Vocational Discernment 1 video **at the first thread here… you’ll be able to find it as a new Thread in the index of Catholic Answers “Vocations” Threads , higher or lower also depending on how much interest there is in it !
Best wishes of Holiness and Beatific Immortality !
Friar Antonio
