Companies that provide health coverage for same sex couples, etc

My employer provides benefits for same sex couples and couples living together, not married–regardless of gender. What do you feel about that? Is it wrong? Is it fair? Is it something that is required by law? Just wondering…
 
Many top 500 companies do provide this benefit. If it were based on law, it would be a state law. I know in my state it is not required by law, but most of our large companies do. Why? Because they want the best person for the job, and if that requires providing better bennies than the next company then so be it. After all, it’s no more expensive to cover a same-gendered partner or unmarried partner than it is to cover a spouse.
 
My workplace does as well. It is definately a form of discrimination towards non-homosexuals. I worked with guy who was straight and he had a male roomate who was also a heterosexual . His roomate didn’t have a job with health insurance. you fill in the blanks on this one. Yep thats right he signed his roomate as a domestic partner and he got free insurance. Fraud? says who? define domestic partner!!! They said it was NOT fraud. They lived together and were best freinds. They were two straight men who were using a horribly designed system. I chuckle every time I think about it.
 
I have no issue with a gay person going to the doctor for an affordable price. If insurance companies and businesses like giving away money thats up to them. It might actualy slow the demand for gay marriage by the gay community. The benefits are all they usually want anyway. Maybe it should apply to room mates as well.

A. I feel it is immoral based on my orthodox Catholic understanding of morality. However, each business is permitted to make its own policies, subject to state and federal law.

A. I feel it is morally wrong, however, as a_cermak pointed out, it is a wise, from a morally neutral standpoint, business practice.

Q. Is it fair?

A. I don’t think so, at least not in the case of cohabitating heterosexual couples; just tie the knot is my opinion.

Q. Is it something required by law?

A. Not in my state. Elsewhere, it might be. I do not believe it is a federal law
 
My employer requires same sex and same address. So I guess it does apply to roomates. I am sure the gay lobby didn’t intend that but you cannot administer a test to prove someone gay.

Definitely true. After all, whose business is it what goes on in their home. After all, no one cares whether the married couple is even residing under the same roof when dealing with benefits.
 
While it is virtually impossible to actually get the facts on this, it is generally understood that providing insurance benefits to same-sex partners drives up the cost of inusrance as they have many more serious health problems.
 
Giving someone insurance benefits is a long ways from approving a lifestyle.
