You know, somebody once suggested I get a cat. While I’d love to have one, I replied that with all the traveling I do, I’d be dragging the poor kitty to the kennel all the time. This person then suggested that if I went away for a week, since cats are intelligent, I should just set up seven bowls of catfood and water, have plenty of litter handy, and the cat would know to ration everything until I got home!

… And I’m STILL glad you spoke up about Adoration!
:tiphat:
My cats would just eat everything the first day, they are piggies like that. I have a pet sitter come by if I’m gone more than a few days. They come by and feed, water, and clean the litter box! 😃

Ahem, back to complaining. 😃

Okay, new dilemma:

Do I complain about not having a cat?
Or do I get a cat and then complain about having to pay a pet sitter all the time?
Or, do I solve everything by … * drumroll please * …
starting up my own Cat Sitting Business Extraordinaire,
for goodness sake! 🙂

Coffee is truly a gift from God. And sex. Coffee and sex are the two things that proves God exists in my book. 😃
Yeah, I could lie and try to acted shocked by your comment, and then go on some holier than thou rant, but I would be a liar if I said that I didn’t enjoy sex. lol!!! And I would also be complaining. lol!!!

I thought that this was the no complaining thread, and if it is, shouldn’t I have a complaint about your complaining??? lol!!!

I think this thread has gone off the rails, and I’m complaining about that! 😛

Hi doanli,

You sound kind of like me in what I concentrate on in photography … landscapes, landscapes, and more landscapes. :o Where’s your favorite place to capture artistically?

Still life is really cool and sounds like fun. Are you into the classic bottles on a table, or what do you prefer?

To try keeping this post on topic, I’ve thought about how to use photography for the Church. Briefly contemplated parish yearbook photos, but really am not a portrait photographer, that takes a special gift that I don’t have. However, I did at least discover in Washington DC that I’m capable of photojournalism, so when that type of opportunity presents itself, maybe something will come of it. And of course my first love, capturing God’s beauty in nature! 🙂

Thanks to you, I have been inspired to photograph churches.

Or draw them. 👍

I love to photograph the beautiful scenery of the Carolinas and Pensacola Beach (Gulf of Mexico—white sand–for now.)

Personally, I’ve had enough of people complaining.

Marriage prep is too lenient, there are too many people getting divorced. Marriage prep is to strict, I don’t want to do all that junk.

The priest’s homily is too short. The priest’s homily is too long.

The Church doesn’t speak out on moral issues enough. The Church needs to mind it’s own business.

Newsflash: It ain’t the Church that needs adjustment.

And my favorites:

Why isn’t my parish providing Vacation Bible School for my kids?
Why isn’t my parish providing a single adults group for me?
Why isn’t my parish providing support for divorced people?
Why isn’t my parish doing bible study?
Why isn’t my parish doing more to serve the poor?

Blah blah blah.

Why isn’t your parish doing any of this? Because you are sitting on your duff complaining about it on CAF rather than going over to the parish volunteering to head up any of these ministries.

Rant over

I know that Iv’e been on here being a smart *** at times, but I just wanted you to know that I do like this thread and I’m glad that somebody stepped up and said something. Sometimes when I wander around CAF, I’m quite dumbfounded & angered by some of the things I see people here complaining about. I saw a thread started by a person who was angry about people talking at church after the Mass was over. Iv’e saw where people where judging other Catholics, whether they were real Catholics or not, because they bowed in front of an empty tabernacle on Good Friday. Iv’e saw where someone started a thread about bad homilies, and it seemed that everyone and their mother chimed in and started critiquing their priests homilies. I have to admit that I do get very upset about about certain things like cell phones ringing in church, chatty parishioners, obnoxious children who have parents that don’t seem to give a damn, etc. But some of the whining that goes on at CAF sometimes sickens me. I think that the virtue of humility is lost on many people in our society today, and that is truly sad. A wise man once told me, “No humility, no holiness. No holiness, no heaven.” Those are words that i truly try to live by. It doesn’t always work out that way, but I keep trying and only by the grace of God, I have made progress. I think its kind of ironic that many here on CAF (not all) can probably recite the Catechism of the Catholic Church by memory, will come on here and judge others for their sins & comments, can tell you the remedy for your sins and what you need to do to be a good Catholic and get to heaven, but they themselves don’t know the first thing about humility.

Very well said. We shouldall be loving towards one another. I too have gotten angry and said things out of line.

Apparently so. Didn’t you get the memo that unless you are between the ages of 21-35, have children, and have one parent at home full time, you don’t matter to the Church? sarcasm Should we should all keep our mouths shut and fume, and then eventually leave the Church.
yes. leave the church if ‘church’ is all abput VBS and fun catholic groups of singles, married, seniors OR teens. ***yes, ***if ‘church’ is all about ‘fitting in’ and making friends and donuts vs. coronas at the gatherings. ***yes ***if ‘church’ is all about music and priests’ personalities and good homilies or bad. ***yes ***if ‘church’ is all about pet devotions and specific expressions in prayer groups (the lectio divinas vs the charismatics vs the scripture studiers) yes if ‘church’ is all about this or anything else besides what it’s really about.

but it’s not about all that. perhaps there’s a Protestant denomination here or there that IS about those things. but the One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church, the Church that embodies the fullness of everything God has revealed to creation through the Incarnation and the Holy Spirit is about

Truth:
which is
the Triune God’s love for HIS people,
salvation through HIS love,
the graces that obtain for us salvation
the Church established to dispense those graces
and the sacraments found therein.

I go to Church because God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is found in the gathering of the people, in the Word proclaimed, in the person of the priest and most powerfully, Jesus entire self-- Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity is present in the Eucharist. i go to church to receive all This. i go to church to Worship all This.

i go to confession because i want to reconcile with God. i want absolution. i want to receive the graces of the sacrament.

i bring my children for baptism because i want them to receive sanctifying grace-- the astonishing love and favor from God of eternal life. i want them to be free of original sin.

i offer and prepare my children for confirmation because i want them to receive the astonishing gifts of the Holy Spirit in fullness. i want them to receive that indellible spiritual mark. i want their life of grace to increase.

i’m married in a sacramental marriage because my vocation is to help my spouse get to heaven.

that i ***like anyone ***at my parish, or ***dislike everyone ***at my parish; that the food is good or rotten; that the pastor is understanding or cold; that the church is lovely or ungly; that the music is sublime or ridiculous are simply details that, if i take them to be the heart of the matter, can lead me astray.

i don’t leave the Church because Christ HIMSELF established the Church. because Christ HIMSELF can be found therein, in the fullness of everything HE established, especially the Blessed Sacrament.

that you all happen to run into some of ***my ***fullness shouldn’t be an obstacle to anyone. you’re not there to see me.

of course we should be charitable. of course we should see the each of us as members of the Body of Christ. but my only business is that it’s MY job to be charitable, not so much to worry whether or not you are.

but, (this is twice today i’ve asserted John’s words) **We love because he first loved us. **

not the least ironic, but human nature.

conversely, there are many here on CAF who have recited the catechism, known every prayer ever uttered, have astonishing recall of cannon law who do NOT judge, and who DO know plenty about the practice humility.

when they offer a remedy to me for my sins, or advice how to be a good Catholic or how to obtain heaven, i gladly take it.

And those are probably the same people who wonder why Catholics have a bad reputation among non-Catholics. I know my friends picture Catholics as judgemental people who will condemn anyone to Hell. It kept me from converting for a long time. I know I can’t stand people who act better than everybody else. And that might be because I have no self-esteem (thanks to my parents and former managers).

Aren’t you simply doing the very same thing of which you are complaining: complaining?

Glad to see some good coming out of this complaint thread. 🙂
I would love to see any of your photos or drawings of churches
that you’d like to share!

I’ve mostly just passed through North Carolina on my way somewhere else and have stayed way out in the boondocks in South Carolina. Interestingly, I think I’m happier with my North Carolina photos! I’m sure you know better than I do where all the best scenery is in South Carolina.

Pensacola Beach … does that get the sunrise, sunset, or both when it comes to horizon shots on the water?

(We may wish to switch to Private Messages unless we can keep thinking of clever ways to stay on topic!)
