I spend a lot of my time on the computer and I am losing interest in other activitys causing me to get bored and spend even more time on the computer. What do you think is the best way to get rid of the habit.

Just some suggestions:

Pray about it, and pray more often. When you feel compelled to get on the computer “just one last time” pray a Rosary instead.

Set a time limit for each day, and for each time you are on the computer. Stick to it. Set the timer on your cell phone or buy a timer you keep right by the computer.

Pick one day a week when you don’t even turn it on. You’ll be amazed by what gets done!

Do all other necessary tasks first (chores, dishes, laundry, etc.), then make your computer time sort of a “reward” for getting other things accomplished.

Take a walk instead, or call a friend.

Think of other activities that you like doing…I mean really like doing and sub those in.
Like watching TV (No, just kidd’n!) I mean like a stroll in the woods, or going to a coffee shop with a friend, or visiting the aviaiton museum, or whatever really fascinates you.

I’m assuming the time spent is recreational time.

I think you need to exchange the PC of things you like to do just as much or more…to be able to gladly step away from it.

It’s tough though! Good luck!

PM.

Start small doing other things you love to do. Force yourself to devote more and more time to that over a longer period of time (weeks). The bond will be broken gradually without any cold turkey withdrawal symptoms.

Stop posting on forums.😃

I find that a time limit has helped me in this area tremendously, especially in checking up on postings in the 3 or 4 forums that I visit routinely.

A “egg timer” (do they make those anymore??) or other kind of alarm might be useful. 🤷

Or, if you don’t really need to be on the computer for work or checking email, paying bills, etc., turn it off and unplug it.

Perhaps try not going on it for 40 days and see if you are really addicted to it?
