Computer sites and woes

I attempted to post this earlier with a different title…this may be better…My 14 y.o. grand daughter was on my computer this afternoon…after she went home, I was looking at the history and was sick when I saw some of the sites she had visited…should I talk to her personally or talk to her Mom?
thanks …I am extremely anxious about this…and am praying up a storm…
 
i say sit down and talk to her first. sometimes kids are curious and the internet is so easy to find something sick on.

true story. my son saw a program on little people. one of these people were married to a normal size man. my son asked me, rather sheepishly, how they could have sex. i am afraid i brushed him off, because i didn’t know how to answer him without going into embarrasing details.

at the time, i could see the searches that were done on our yahoo. because of his poor spelling , i knew that he was the culprit. apparently he had looked up how little people have sex with average sized people. this of course brought up porn, which wasn’t his original intent. that porn captured his attention and from there he ran with it.😦

another time, my younger son started looking up anime and video games. there is such a thing as dirty anime-believe it or not- and some video cheat sites have porn ads on them. he clicked on something and couldn’t get out of the site. he voluntarily told me, i didn’t discover this for myself.

you might want to tell your daughter that once she looks up these sites they are forever stored on your harddrive. even if she is not looking up hardcore porn, some of these sites piggy back onto the softer porn.
 
Might be a good idea to talk to your grand-daughter AND install some filtering software on your computer. I have the following installed on my kid’s computer, and it is very effective. By the way, this software is FREE.

One of my daughters was doing a project in 7th grade and they had to look up diseases. Her friend had “scarlet fever.” That brought up what my daughter referred to as “awkward sites.”

The littlest one loves rabbits. So she was looking up images of bunnies for her background. She told me she got sent to a site with a “pole dancer with bunny ears.”

And my girls say NEVER TYPE IN “CATS” or “KITTIES.”

And never type in Whitehouse.com. (My girls said they thought they were going to Whitehouse.gov.)

You just never know. That’s why my computer is in my bedroom. So no one is on it alone.

And if you get stuck on a site, press Control/Alt/Delete, and it will take you to a windows task manager that will let you shut down the application or any site you can’t get out of it.
 
Try installing scrubit on your computer (it’s free):

  1. *]go to scrubit.com
    *]click on the blue box labeled “scrub it” to download

    It basically filters out the majority of “bad stuff” out there, but it can’t catch everything nor will it address the primary issue. I’d recommend that someone sit down with her to have have a talk with her.

Cannot let this one go past without answering. FYI, they have sex exactly like any other married couple does. (Bit of an expert here as I have dwarfism, my husband does not.) 🤷

I believe this is compatible with scrubit ( scrubit.com ) as well. Looks like a good recommendation.
 
thanks to all of you…you have greatly calmed me down for now…I have already downloaded K9 AND SCRUBIT…I called my grandaughter and asked her about it and said we can talk tomorrow…she is involved with a new cheerleading team and has not started H.S. yet…but will in the fall…I am afraid she is with the older girls on the team and maybe is being influenced by some of their conversation…She has always been in Catholic school and now is being thrown to the wolves!!!

yes, i realized that. but it was hard to answer a 13 year old boy that wanted to know particulars like how the larger guy wouldn’t hurt the smaller woman. i didn’t know how to answer the question without going into technical detail so i brushed him off. that was wrong on my part. he wasn’t being dirty, just curious and somewhat concerned for the woman.

if that happened now, i could just pm you, and you could assure him that you are fine.:o it would have saved the problem of him trying to find the answer on his own.

Thanks Tech Admin… I went to the site and this should configure nicely into my sonic wall and access point at work and cover all the computers on our network. I have had a problem with one employee that thinks it’s ok to go to porn sites at work as long as he is on his personal laptop… this will solve it nicely as the boss asked me to do something about it!

jenreg - I recommend speaking to your daughter about installing similar software at home also. You may not want to tell her what you found - but at least give her the awareness that it is needed and hint very strongly that it is indeed needed.

I think I would also let granddaughter know that this behavior is painful and not welcome when she is using your computer. Maybe you can both come up with a working solution of when she can use it, if she can use it, and under what circumstances. Get it out in the open and you will both feel better about it.

There’s also a content manager in Internet Options on Internet Explorer. You can set it to block certain websites or allow someone to view with a password.

You can also set it to disallow each website which is unrated.

You can also go the parent manager of your online provider and block all the websites that she has visited. However, do not hesitate to approach your daughter and talk to her not only about how you feel when you found out that she visited these sites…but also why these sites are not filling your daughter with the proper information for her to grow into a mature adult.

My mother always said…you are what you eat…and if you eat or feed your brain garbage or filth…that’s how you will turn out. If you avoid temptation and sin, you become more like the God who created you…and He is love…therefore you will become loving.

Pray on it, but don’t wait too long to block these sites.
