Comunication with those that have passed on

I started this in "Ask A Question: but no one responded, so I’ll try again here.

About 3 years ago, 2-3 months after my brother had died, my dad was in the basement, home alone, and all of the sudden my dad felt a light breeze in his face with the overwhelming smell of my brother. It made the hair on the back of his neck stand up and then suddenyl the alarm clock in my brothers room went off, with the volume up all the way, just like my brother used to have it. My dad turned the volume down, the radio off and then called my mom at work to explain what had just happened.

When my mom got home that night she immediately went into my brothers room and while crying out “Jason, if you’re here, please let me know” his radio turned on again, full blast.

I don’t know where I stand on this, but if it hadn’t been my parents who told me this, who are very button down, conservative, straight shooters; I probably wouldn’t have believed it.

I have since stayed at my parents house a few times with my wife and kids, only to awaken in the morning with the fireplace in the basement, where we stay, turned on. My dad’s too tight to turn it on, and my kids are too young to think of playing a joke. While there could be explanations for this, it does seam odd that it has happened multiple times.

Finally, my brother programmed his phone number in my dads phone and put “Studly Son”. A few weeks ago, on my dads birthday while at work his phone rang and “Studly Son” came up on his caller ID. My dad hesitated and then answered to silence. He said hello several times and then finally the girl on the other end said “I’m sorry I have the wrong number”. Now I have a hard time believing it to be a coincidence that 3 years after my brother dies, a girl who now has his old phone number, could inadvertently call my dad on his birthday.

My parents, who are Catholic too, fully, 100% believe that he’s letting them know that he’s still around and doing just fine. I on the other hand really don’t know what to think and am quite baffled by the whole thing, so I would like to hear what other peoples thoughts are on the the subject, and of course on these particular experiences. I don’t know what the church’s position is on the subject and would like to know that too.

I do not think this could be in the same league as communicating with the dead via ouiji boards or tarot cards or whatnot. Have you ever heard the church’s teachings on psychics? That one should never actively try to divine the future, but aknowledges that there are those who are given, through no attempt or effort on their own, glimpses of future events? I feel this may be sort of the same thing.

Let me re-phrase that: are we making something out of nothing, or is it exactly what my parents think it is?

My fiance and I once saw a pair of herons while on a picnic, just a few weeks before he passed away. He was fascinated with them and pulled the car over so we could watch them for awhile. There aren’t a lot of herons where I live, but since he passed, I see herons whenever I’m worried about something, or need to make a decision and wish he was there to talk to.

I most certainly believe he’s keeping in touch with me.

This is a far cry from divining in order to speak with the dead which I used to get paid a lot of money for by the way, until I converted.

This same thing happens to me as your family now when I want to know God is with me, I receive signs. It is not light matter to contact the dead. It sometimes left me in tears especially in case of a murder and especially those unsolved. It was interferring in God’s business which is something I no longer do.

The use of a device (tarot cards Quija Boards, runes, bones) etc.to contact the dead is the problem. Info given to me now without those devices, I know I can trust as info from God and nowhere else.

Thank you for the responses. What I’m curious about is, is it realistic to assume these things are really him trying to reach out to us? My parents believe it is. It’s not about an attempt or even desire to try and contact him via any of the ways suggested above or any other way for tha matter. I’d just like to know what the church says about the deceased doing things like this. Is it possible, is it reality, or are we making something out of nothing? I’m also interested in other stories that may be similar to ours like Miserys.

I think it is possible that it is what your parents think it is. Was your brother Catholic, or at least likely to have perfect contrition at the time of his death?
Saints in heaven send signs all the time.

I have had experiences with what I believe is my deceased mother sending me signs. I am always happy to receive them. But I don’t actively seek them, I think there could be danger in that.
