We cannot live in a bubble, but can take reasonable precautions. Hand washing, avoiding physical contact, staying home when you aren’t well…all help. Perhaps we should be more vigilant about cleaning holy water fonts regularly. Is it ok to chlorinate holy water a bit? Any stagnant water is not generally sanitary. I have my little bottle… I could use that instead of the font, we all could.
But frankly, if we reach status of this epidemic like China, I will watch mass from home on TV until the crisis passes. God asks a lot of us, including being prudent. My elderly mother depends on me, so I go to every effort to be well so I can be with her.
What we shouldn’t do is have fits if a bishop or priest asks that we abstain from hand holding, hand shaking and communion on the tongue to do what reasonably can be done to prevent mass from being an unsafe place. I have heard such fits and it really is goofy. The priests and bidhops run the mass, and we need to comply.
I am more concerned about the flu personally I the US, though I am near a major city and the Corona virus certainly will come here.
