Concernd about communion hosts in dumpster

Any priest worth his salt would check the dumpster to see whether any of the hosts could be safely retrieved. And above all would not give the OP the false impression that the hosts had somehow been ‘dconsecrated’ by his prayer.
I agree.

I was talking about this with a young teen today. She asked me 1) why, if the op is disabled is she able to clean a home? To do the kind of work necessary to load/pack boxes and move them isn’t something a disabled person can usually do.
She asked me 2) why doesn’t the person who disposed of the box retrieve it? Is he disabled as well?
3) Why is there only 1 eighty year old Priest in the area? Who just happens to be disabled as well?
4) Why would a Priest allow a person to take the Eucharist home when they can receive during Mass???

Legitimate questions. From a child barely schooled in Catholicism…

It would be easy enough to sneak communion out of mass at my church… I am certain I could do it every Sunday without a problem if I wanted to.

Perhaps the Hosts the op has found are unconsecrated then?

Father Phillip came by and asked me how I knew the hosts were consecrated. I said I woukd see her take them from mass. He seemed irritated but then said some prayers over the dumpster. He then said they were no longer our lord and to go on using the dumpster. Thank God! We really need it to sort through my grandma’s other stuff. Let’s hope there are no more shoeboxes! Thanks for all of your help here!
I didn’t catch this earlier. So they are Consecrated, and you witnessed her “spiriting” them away from Mass?

…until she posted this (my bolding - that is just not possible at all):

I wish you were right. But priests are men, not perfect. Some of them, frankly, don’t actually believe in the Real Presence. (Fortunately through the grace of the Church, that doesn’t prevent them from validly consecrating the Eucharist.)

It’s entirely possible that there is a priest who would do this. JIC, I think we should pray for him. I hope the OP has PM’d someone who is willing to go to the trouble of contacting the KoC, because it is not right that He should stay there in the dumpster. I mean, people go through dumpsters just to get their keys, and this is the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of the Lord God Jesus Christ!

Oh, and to the OP and anyone else reading this, if you EVER see anyone taking consecrated hosts from Mass, inform the priest IMMEDIATELY after Mass. This is never allowed, unless they are handed to the person specifically by the priest and in a thingie (the name of which I have forgotten but it is a metal case) to be taken to the sick or homebound.

She’s right because the story is not true. There have been other similar threads made that are just as sensational and I suspect from the same poster.

I’m not sure why but the 2 links that I provided earlier now show up as the same link anyways here they are again.

sigh I fretted about this today, but as soon as I recounted all of the circs (that I knew up to that point) to the teen, she immediately pointed out several inconsistencies.
But, contrary perhaps to the posters intentions, this has increased my faith, as I learned many things, most especially that sometimes there is more wisdom in innocence than one might think.

Have a blessed night.

To the OP, if this situation is true, then ask your neighbors! From a Catholic point of view, this is almost as serious as someone drowning, so you need to act like it!

If you were my neighbor, I’d get right in that dumpster and find that box, even though I’m not even Catholic.

I would just like to point out that this was copied verbatim from a website called “Children of Mary” (childrenofmary.net/littleli.shtml) and is attributed to Archbishop Fulton Sheen.
actually i don’t believe that is the site i copied it off .are you their intellectual property lawyer? and it isn’t attributed to Archbishop Fulton Sheen .its attributed to Father Luke ,he witnessed the martyrdom of Little Li .Archbishop Fulton Sheen repeated the story.

If Helen Sue’s story is true then not only were her grandmother’s actions gravely sinful (assuming she knew her actions were wrong and I cannot believe any Catholic would believe that doing such a thing wasn’t) but in witnessing the sacrilege and failing to report it and therefore prevent it, she too would be guilty of sacrilege against the Most Blessed Sacrament. It is akin to witnessing an abduction and failing to report it to the police. We are all bound to not only not commit sacrilege but also not to aid and abet it either.

I am not standing in judgement here as it is not my place but having said that, Our Lord told us that there were plenty of tares among the wheat and that includes I believe outwardly faithful and seemingly respectable Catholics. The lesson of Judas comes to mind here; to the casual observer he seemed as faithful a disciple as any other. It would have been only on closer inspection that his inner rottenness would have been apparent.

How many of those who go to Mass regularly will still end up in Hell despite “appearing” to love and follow the Lord? I ask only to point out that it should not be assumed that just because someone goes to Mass regularly that they will be fit for heaven. There are very many “time and motion” Catholics who turn up at the right time but then simply go through the motions. They are also the “Sunday” Catholics who think their religion begins and ends in Mass, leave their faith at the door of the church when leaving Mass on Sunday and do not live the Gospel from one Sunday to the next. In fact their lives are lived in a manner gravely contrary to Christ’s teaching. In short there are many hypocrites such as in Our Lord’s day when the pharisees obeyed all the requirements of the Law but who had no love, compassion or real faith; they were only concerned about how they “appeared” to the world.

I pray Helen Sue’s grandmother was not such as this and acted merely out of ignorance and a very misguided and disordered piety but I am not at all sure.

Helen Sue needs to retrieve the Blessed Hosts in the hope that she can at least mitigate her offence and then she might like to go to confession afterwards. The Hosts should be retrieved and handed in to a church. It really is as simple as that.

If this whole thing is a sick hoax then Helen Sue needs urgent psychiatric and spiritual help and much prayer.

No, just that it’s generally considered a good idea to cite your sources when you post a very long quote like that. And since that was the only website I could find the story on, with the same exact wording, I just assumed you had copied and pasted it from there. If that’s not where it was from, would you please provide your source? Thanks!

I agree, this is true, but from what I have heard it appears that a lot of food items are being thrown in and the contents of the dumpster are likely in decay…
If the story of the dumpster is true, and people are throwing McDonald’s food waste into it, then not even bacteria will eat that stuff, so there’s no decay going on.
