There’s always things that we have to do on a daily basis that we just don’t like to do but we do them anyway because we’re adults and it’s apart of life.

I’m wondering if doing these things, such as doing dirty dishes or exercising, and NOT wanting to them, but offering them up as a sacrifice is effective. Does me making myself do the dishes, or run that mile, and offering it up for the good of the souls in Purgatory, work for their good or mine?

Thanks y’all,
Whitney from Houston

It all counts. Even offering a smile to someone can be meritorious - and we can’t always know what good this smile did.

Sacrifices can be offered for the souls in Purgatory or for any good intention. wrt the souls in purgatory you could ask God to apply the merits of your good deeds or sufferings to be applied to them - after all you’ve offered the merits of these for the souls in purgatory. And uniting your sacrifices to The Sacrifice of Christ it is so much more powerful.

Welcome Thewhitknee! My experience says doing unpleasant jobs with the right attitude–offering it up for the poor souls in Purgatory does good for them and good for you. For one thing it is following Christ and picking up your crosses… Offering them for the good of someone else is what Sister Patrick taught us years ago… 🙂 Keep up the good work. I hate dirty dishes and so does everyone else… Exercise isn’t always fun but it turns out to be good for you, and good for who you want to offer it up for… MHO
