Condemning the Divine Mercy Devotion

This website is an SSPX website and so does not speak for the Catholic Church. Typically of the SSPX, it sets itself above the authority of the Holy See. Pope John Paul II canonised Sr Faustina in 2000, and named the first Sunday after Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday, and authorised the use of both the prayers and the Divine Mercy image. This is well within the rights of the Pontiff, and faithful Catholics can freely participate in this devotion, and obtain a plenary indulgence for doing so properly. Neither Msgr. Patrick Perez nor anyone other that the Holy Father has the authority to dissuade the faithful from taking part in this devotion.

I knew this was from some schism group, just never knew which one. Before, I didn’t realize that since it seemed Catholic, but as I’ve come to know my faith more, I’ve seen that groups that are truly Catholic are in sync with Rome, not preaching against it, that they know better than the pope, etc.

I wouldn’t listen to this advice. St. Faustina was canonized a saint! This Sunday is Divine Mercy Sunday, so we definitely can participate in!

If this was good enough for Blessed John Paul II, it’s good enough for me. I’d listen to him over this website, quite frankly. He was the Vicar of Christ! Anyone who puts down Christ’s representatives puts down Christ, himself. Who will not accept Christ does not accept him who sent him.

I think that’s a misunderstanding about Divine Mercy. Catholicism is not easy, no matter how it’s done. To imply otherwise is to misconstrue how it works. It’s sort of like how some do not understand the workings of confession, try to say one can sin, go, and all’s well without effort. Those people don’t understand like the people condemning Divine Mercy Devotion.
 
We can’t condemn anything approved by the church. Even more , St Faustina made many miracles which shows the work of God in her and all she is saying is how much God is Merciful so there is nothing wrong in that and the prayers are so beautiful. Furthermore , Jesus said similar things to St Gertrude the Great about His union with her.

Our Lord’s words to a devout person who was praying for Gertrude when she was still alive at that time as they are written in the Revelations of St Gertrude’s book:

After Our Lord had spoken this to this soul, He showed her a precious stone on His heart, in the form of a triangle, made of trefoils, the beauty and brilliancy of which cannot be described; and He said to her. ** “I always wear this jewel as a pledge of the affection which I have for My spouse. I have made it in this form, that all the celestial court may know by the brightness of the first leaf that there is no creature on earth so dear to Me as Gertrude, because there is no one at this present time among mankind who is united to Me so closely as she is, either by purity of intention or by uprightness of will. They will see by the second leaf that there is no soul still bound by the chains if flesh and blood whom I am so disposed to enrich by My graces and favors. And they will observe in the splendor of the third leaf that there is no one who refers to My glory lone the gifts received from Me with such sincerity and fidelity as Gertrude, who far from wishing to claim the least thing for herself, desires most ardently that nothing shall be ever attributed to her”.**

Pope John Paul II said: “The message she brought is the appropriate and incisive answer that God wanted to offer to the questions and expectations of human beings in our time, marked by terrible tragedies. Jesus said to Sr Faustina one day: ‘Humanity will never find peace until it turns with trust to the Divine Mercy.’”

And the enemies of God said similar stuff about the Holy Rosary when Saint Dominic and others were preaching about it. See it here :

What a scathing review! I’m shocked. I lent my copy of the Diary to a friend at church for a few days and haven’t got it here to cross reference his quotes from it. I wish I had it here. He’s mean.

Here’s something he said that I have a particular problem with: “Unfortunately, this corresponds very much with what Pope John Paul II wrote in the Encyclical Dives in misericordia. I do not recommend reading it to any of you, except the most prepared, because it has many misleading things. It re-echoes this mercy with no price, gifts from heaven with no requirements, God’s mercy with no mention of penance or reparation for sin whatsoever.”

To actually speak against the Church’s newest Universal feast is incredible but to speak against Pope John Paul II’s Encyclical is wrong too. The author goes too far if you ask me.

Here is his “opinion” of the reversal of the Divine Mercy’s withdrawal by St. John Paul II: “It is very important to know this, because it is one of many things that were brought back in modern times that were condemned in the past. And this is not a case of the Church changing her mind. It is a case of a representative of the Church doing something he should not be doing.”

Nothing like judging the actions of a Pope and telling the world you think he’s wrong for doing so. Oh well. Poor guy. May the Divine mercy open his eyes and his heart.

i checked out the site; the premise is not in the best line of sight to explain the chaplet’s popularity…there is a target to zero in upon-God’s mercy of course…although, the article had to make a statement in the title-then give evidence…so it mentions, of what caught my attention, that of the picture, in question, of christ having a certain body language…certainly it explained the difference from the heart of christ, traditional picture image…
while once volunteering at a catholic mission-a protestant gave a similar image and the Sister put it on the wall in the chapel; well, i commented it looked like jesus was pole vaulting-impressions of christ risen , therein , i suppose; likewise, the protestant version of the cross-has no corpus; its just a cross-and so might reflect jesus risen…the chaplet of divine mercy might address, in image at least, the risen lord…so the article is kind of right/disagreeable in other ideas…perhaps, the problem is cause/effect, under the logic-Post ergo proctor hoc/ latin for ‘after this therefore because of this.’ or wrong cause/effect…or , reading in a lucid flow that article, the popularity of the chaplet is bogus due to questionable beginnings: this being again ‘post hoc ergo proctor hoc…’
i like the idea of body language and prayer; some pics on the poor clares or the carmelite sisters illustrate some wonderful body language of how they pray…one pic shows a sister, collapsed by her station, face down in a fetal position, her hands expend to cup her forehead, as if to say-“Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me;” or another pic shows a sister-(perhaps you tube) showing a sister, kneeling, as light pours though a window, (real llife photo here), then both hands raised above the level of her shoulders, reaching-up as if to say-“i give the whole world to the mercy of christ.;” interesting-solitary nuns-have a romance with God…much admired-as mercy cannot be so easily challenged…

The only thing I could possibly add to what has already been said about the article /review is that the inclusion of a picture showing Hitler’s troops marching on Warsaw, and tying it to the subject using the caption: “Nazi soldiers invaded Poland after Sr. Faustina announced a blessed world - above, they are marching on Warsaw” is deeply troubling.

Even someone unfamiliar with doctrine, the functions of Rome, Papal authority and infallibility, or even the Catholic church as a whole would be astounded by the inclusion of this picture and caption. A picture paints a 1000 words and a picture of the Nazi’s marching speaks volumes about the article’s intent. Writers often include such images to convey things they dare not put into words. So it is with this article and picture. The only thing I have seen that even comes close to it has been from deeply anti-catholic postings or websites I have had the misfortune to come across.

You may well be right CountrySteve; thanks for the clarification. Though it seems as though the source of the article, Msgr. Patrick Perez, is of the SSPX (I believe he is at the SSPX parish in Garden Grove, CA).

While not as offensive as the Tradition in Action site, your links above and on other posts are to a site that isn’t 100% faithful to the Magisterium either. Catholic Tradition has some very disparaging comments about the Mass in OF, among other things. While it does have some lovely prayers and graphics, please be very cautious about its other content!

Thanks for telling me! Well, i love this website because of its beautiful prayers and graphics and that the web master love St Gertrude because she is one of my favorite saints but i didn’t know about other things because im more into prayers or books written by saints like the links above are about the rosary written by St Louis de monfort and im very cautious because i know there are many other danger sites also but till now i haven’t read anything against the teaching of the church in that site. Thanks again 🙂

I found the Catholic tradition site when I was searching for an image and prayers to Notre Dame du Cap. I didn’t realize it wasn’t a faithful site until I saw their page on the Latin Mass. It’s sad they believe this way. I agree the prayers and graphics are beautiful.
