Hey everyone!
So, I received my conditional baptism today, and my wife made her profession of faith!
According to the pastor, we are both fully Catholic now, but we still have yet to receive Confirmation and First Eucharist, which will be done this Sunday.
However, Iām a bit of a scrupulous person, and so Iām worried about my reception. The National Statutes of the Catechumenate say:
āIf conditional baptism . . . seems necessary, this must be celebrated privately rather than at a public liturgical assembly of the community and with only those limited rites which the diocesan bishop determines. The reception into full communion should take place later at the Sunday Eucharist of the communityā (37, emphasis mine)
When I came up to do my conditional baptism, the only things I said were the normal baptismal promises (āDo you reject Satan and all his works?ā - āI doā, etc.). Then I was baptized. I made no āprofession of faithā or anything, it was just that. And the priest said that was all I needed. So my question is, is that correct? I didnāt also need to make a profession of faith? Was I validly received into Catholicism in the eyes of the Church, so that I really can call myself Catholic now? The fact that the Statutes seem to distinguish between being received into the Church and the conditional baptism itself is whatās making me worried, because I wonāt be making a profession of faith this Sunday when Iām Confirmed. Could I be receiving all these sacraments without actually being Catholic?
Thanks everyone in advance for your answers
