When I used to have cable, they kept playing a contraception pill commercial during the Brady Bunch during the day. And the Brady Bunch promotes radical feminism on some episodes.

It’s like selling condoms in the diaper aisle. The message is scared-straight advertising. “Don’t end up like this! Buy this instead!”

Kind of ironic. It was a Population Control red flag that three children per parent was portrayed as an absurdly large family. The American Dream became 2.3 children around this time. A contraceptive mentality firmly entrenched in the culture even before Roe v. Wade came about.

Pro-lifers who emphasize outlawing abortion and tolerate or promote contraception are missing the forest for the trees.

When my husband trained with some very rural ambulance crews he learned there are some tricks for dealing with various wounds out in the middle of nowhere (and with limited funds for emergency response crews) using condoms, sanitary pads, tampons, etc. because they are cheap, individually wrapped, and clean enough to use for the time being while trying to get a seriously injured patient to a hospital.

Of course, if they ran out before another shipment of these items came in, the new guy on the truck was forced to go into Walmart and buy a cart full of these things…haha

In emergency medical situations tampons and pads are near in value to a Swiss Army Knife and duct tape.

So why is ObamaCare providing “free”* contraception but no free tampons or sanitary napkins? Where’s the sense?

We seldom watch more than 1-2 hours of broadcast TV each week, and most of what we watch is PBS. Most of our screen time is spent on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon video. About the time we reached the tipping point where we lost track of where the remote was because of how little time we spend watching the regular TV, they had started showing vibrator commercials late at night. One thing we didn’t miss from commercial TV was having to have our hand on the controller at all times in case an objectionable commercial came on while the kids were watching. We had a decent grace period from that but now Viagra seems to be one of the main advertisers on Hulu so when we watch it we have to have the mouse at the ready to hit mute. If they start showing condom and vibrator commercials as well, I think we’d stop watching Hulu.

Are you confusing the TV show (which was as squeaky-clean as Leave It To Beaver) with the sleazy Hollywood movie adaptation? I can recall the episode where Greg challenges Marcia to a driving test to prove men can drive better, but other than that, I’m a little hard-pressed to think of any episode where “radical feminism” was ever promoted - indeed, the running joke throughout the whole series was Alice waiting for the Sam the butcher to propose. Hardly characteristic of “feminism.” As far as the actual people who were playing those characters, I do know Cindy Brady – er, the actress playing her – is now a talk show host, and Jan is an artist, and I think Mr. Brady was homosexual in a real life, but are you talking about the same Brady Bunch? It’s still on MeTV channel every week.

TV ads for male enhancement products, vibrators and condoms will hardly result in any backlash. Put a pro-life ad and your sure to get a thunderous backlash.

Ditched the TV and cable channels long ago. I just use Netflix and Amazon Prime. Of course there is still objectionable content there, but at least you have control of it.

Do you use Netflix streaming, disc-ship service, or both? I found the streaming selection to be woefully inadequate, while the discs have a wide variety of devotional, classic films, documentary and other types of selections from Kultur and Ignatius Press that I can’t get enough of. I cancelled my streaming when they made them a la carte, primarily for the reason that they don’t support Linux, but the secondary important reasons were that I couldn’t afford both, and the selection was abysmal.

I did have both, but ditched the disc service to save money. I do miss it occasionally, but thankfully I have a pretty good public library system that means that I can get a hold of something if I really want it. However, I tend not to go for devotional DVD’s, so I can see where you might want to keep the disc shipping. I don’t miss regular television programming at all. 🙂
