Does anyone know of any conferences or events that are good for Catholic youth who are drawn to tradition? I enjoy all of the retreats that are held in my diocese, but they don’t get much deeper than a few praise and worship songs and a bit of Scripture reading. :o I am hungry for hard-core stuff! 😛

Stubenville! That’s as about as hardcore as you can get!

Not sure where in Canada you are but I know of a lot of awesome retreats.

What age group? There are quite a few summer camps that come to mind. They are a mix of instruction and socializing. One is the Catholic Apologetics Camp held in Brevard, NC every August. catholicapologeticscamp.com/about/

Next try Camp Wojtyla in Colorado. camp-w.com/. There are weeks for middle school and high school students. College students have the opportunity to train and work there for the summer. They are actually advertising for camp counselors on the website right now.

Steubenville is also great.

Next try summer experience weeks at Christendom College, Thomas Aquinas College, Benedictine College, and University of Dallas. If you google those schools and “summer programs” they should come up.

Good luck!

There’s a massive pilgrimage in Quebec in September each year. There’s also the Chartres pilgrimage.

I am not sure how far you are willing to travel, but Saint Meinrads Archabbey in Indiana has some exceptional very traditional retreats. This is a seminary as well, so you can be assured that the theology is acceptable!

Often, the people who organize retreats or events for young catholics think that everybody will run away if they go into hard core stuff. However, I know by experience that many students are very interested in theology and want learn more about it. So here is my suggestion: try to find other young catholics with similar interests and once you are enough go find one or several priests who would be glad to give you apologetics or theology lessons.

We did that in my hometown in Switzerland. Each month we have a meeting and the director of the diocese’s seminary comes from another city to give us a theology lesson. It’s not a very big city (although with many students) and last meeting, during exams week, we were still 25 to 30 people, including many students who were not at all into this kind of stuff before.

And it’s nice to see another pianist here!

If you’re interested in the Charismatic Renewal, then Steubenville is the place to be.
My daughter has been to three Stubie youth conferences and she is not at all into the Charismatic Renewal. She loves them for the talks and the music. Of course, I am an alumni of FUS and she seeks out people I went to school with and/or their kids.

CruceSignati,

If you’re willing to travel to the Eastern U.S., Camp St. Isaac Jogues is a summer camp in Elmhurst, PA organized by the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter.

You can check the FSSP website for upcoming (and past) camps and retreats.

Here is the closest FSSP group that I can find in Alberta. Its about 150 K from you. Probably a tough drive in the winter. Perhaps they could arrange a satellite quasi-parish for you and a group at a church closer to you. Its worth contacting them.

God Bless.
