Steven Merten:
The fundimentalist responded, “Don’t you think that God would want some men on earth to explain His will. We (the fundimentalists) are here to lead and explain God’s will. We know that if what Jesus is saying is true, then we would all go to hell. We follow what St. Paul says (faith alone)…”
One problem with Protestantism is that it opens the door for a false magisterium. Folk who are ignorant of the Bible tend to cling to people who are more intelligent and educated (or seemingly so) than themselves.

The fundamentalists that Steven encountered probably subscribe to ultradispensationalism. This false doctrine divides the NT into scripture that is intended for Jews and scripture that is intended for Gentile Christians. They frequently perceive conflicts between St. Paul’s epistles and the non-Pauline NT texts. They explain that St. Paul was writing for Gentile Christians, and that text intended for Jews (e.g. Jesus preaching to the Jews, St. Peter’s epistles) does not apply to Gentile Christians.

It is nearly impossible to have a scriptural discussion with this type of mindset. They blatantly ignore St. Paul’s declaration that there is no longer Jew nor Greek, and basically subscribe to whatever some “wise” teacher can convince them to believe. Athough these people may be sincere, it’s extremely easy to manipulate scripture in this fashion.

God bless you all!

Hello Loy,

I agree with your take on the false magisteerium. First the Fundimentalists say you don’t need Catholic Magisterium because of solo scriptures then when they lead everyone into schism they say well don’t you think Jesus would want some men on earth like us to have authority to lead people along with scriptures.

There was another instance that I backed a penticostal minister into the corner with Jesus teaching to obey the commandments and feed the poor if we wish to enter into life. The minister finally broke down and explained, “We believe it all changed after Jesus death. Once Jesus died, His preressurection teaching was obsoleted for St. Paul’s post ressurrection teaching.” Say what! “Do you make this clear to your followers that you do not believe in Jesus teaching?”, I asked him.

So they believe that Jesus was only talking to the people who heard Him and died before His death? How does one believe in Jesus except by doing what He tells you to do?

It is sad that they can memorize a few verses and lead so many astray with all this wishy washy rationalizations. I believe we just have to keep pounding out Jesus teaching on what He wills us to do to go to heaven.

Peace in Christ,
Steven Merten

By the way, your poll should have allowed for more than one answer. I usually say Jesus gave the apostles the authority as we read in John…😉

The problem is it does not say that Mary Magdalene was in the room that evening but only that Thomas was not in the room with the disciples. Classic misdirection tactic of protestant apologists.

Wait a minute. That doesn’t make any sense. You can’t spread the Gospel using deceit! Leading people astray from the truth is the same as lying. Satan is the father of all lies. Both the Old and New Testament condemn lying.

First of all, are you equating priests today with the 12 apostles of Jesus? These 12 were given the very powers of Jesus from forgiving sins to raising the dead. They needed those powers because they were instrumental in starting the church of Jesus. Those powers have not been passed on to any other men, and anyone who beleives so is in danger of prideful blasphemy in my opinion.

Are you saying that you believe that the apostles were given the authority to forgive sins? So once a church is started it no longer needed people with the authority to forgive sins?

God Bless,

Maria,
Are today’s priests able to heal the crippled, heal the lame, raise the dead, perform miracles, or speak in tongues like the apostles could? Oh but they can still forgive sins right? Gimme a break!!! Simple man made doctrine.

Actually yes, some do. Padre Pio was one of God’s modern miracle workers.

But how can it be a man made doctrine if Christ did give the authority to the Apostles? Christ made it.

God Bless,
Maria

Here’s a good reference that uses the Old and New Testaments to show that the power of priests to forgive sins has been a tradition, even for the Jews. What Jesus did is give the Apostles the powers that used to be only reserved for the Jewish priests.

Was I being too sarcastic?
