is telling someone of something someone else did to me grave sin.
i was talking to a fellow worker and he started talking about a store manager we had a few years back. i normally dont say bad thing about another. but i came out and said for example that he used to call me in his office even thoe i was not a manager and just annoy me. then i said something else but before it i was thinking should i say anything or say nothing but then i told him another. which was he called me slow or fat because to him I was not a fast enough worker for him which upset me at the time and then he relized he did wrong.
but its not what the store manager did it’s what i did. Reviling the faults or the things in which this manager did to me. His not in the store anymore. if that helps.
does this need to be confessed before receiving commiuon.
Was what you said true or were you making the stories up?
Did it serve a good purpose (for example someone was complaining of being picked on by the boss and you told them what you’d been through to show sympathy for them)?
If the answer to both those questions is yes then what you did wasn’t a sin at all, not even venial.
If you were lying, or telling the stories simply to gossip or make the old boss look bad, then it was almost certainly a sin but I’m not sure how grave it would be. There are lots of surrounding circumstances that would determine just how sinful it was. It would be a good idea to bring it up with your priest just for advice for future reference if nothing else.

May by it is your former manager that needs to confess. If you are telling the truth then you have committed no sin to require confession. You spoke the truth. You sin if you wanted to harm him in some way and I do not see that in your statement. Remember too that it is ok to speak when others say things to you that are hurtful. Look at Job who had to defend himself to others who accuse him of things he really was not responsible for. Job spoke alot for his defence and God did justified him. In fact God was upset with Job’s so called friends that He asked Job to pray for them so that He, God, will be able to forgive them. Some people will never look at their own mistakes so God needs someone like Job to pray for them so that God will forgive them.
You will need to judge …and can ask the priest in help you…part of it is objective (like was it a grave fault that you were reveiling …and did you have a good reason to do so…like defense…or prudent advise or reasonable consolation…and part of it is subjective…what were you aware of …what did you think …what did you know when you were doing so…where you just talking off the cuff and then later think…hey I should not have done that…etc…
Catechism:
2477 Respect for the reputation of persons forbids every attitude and word likely to cause them unjust injury.277 He becomes guilty:
of rash judgment who, even tacitly, assumes as true, without sufficient foundation, the moral fault of a neighbor;
of detraction who, without objectively valid reason, discloses another’s faults and failings to persons who did not know them;278
of calumny who, by remarks contrary to the truth, harms the reputation of others and gives occasion for false judgments concerning them.
Compendium of the Catechism:
When does one commit a mortal sin?
1855-1861
1874
One commits a mortal sin when there are simultaneously present: grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent. This sin destroys charity in us, deprives us of sanctifying grace, and, if unrepented, leads us to the eternal death of hell. It can be forgiven in the ordinary way by means of the sacraments of Baptism and of Penance or Reconciliation.
When does one commit a venial sin?
1862-1864
1875
One commits a venial sin, which is essentially different from a mortal sin, when the matter involved is less serious or, even if it is grave, when full knowledge or complete consent are absent. Venial sin does not break the covenant with God but it weakens charity and manifests a disordered affection for created goods. It impedes the progress of a soul in the exercise of the virtues and in the practice of moral good. It merits temporal punishment which purifies.
well he was telling me the reason why such and such left the company. one of the faults i said i just said it and the other one i thought about it before i said it but then thought i should of said nothing.
the one where he used to call me to his office i just said. then the other where he called be slow or big i thought about it before hand then just said it.
i didn’t start the conversation about the other person their was no intent in harming the person. i didn’t say it in a hatful voice. i did say after that a good thing about him but i cant remeber it i think i said he was funny…
