Confessing Sins: Lust

The Peace of the Lord be with all of you,

I am going to confess later. And ofc, I am in my youth stage, I have impure files in my gadgets… If I confess my sins and did not delete those files, will my mortal sin remain? It’s a constant struggle for me. Please help me understand…

Your sin will be forgiven if, at the moment of confession, you repent and intend not to repeat those sins. Now, you may know that you will probably slip up again, but the important thing is that you intend to do your best. So even if you haven’t deleted pornographic files from your phone/computer, if you are genuinely sorry and mean to not fall into that trap again, the confession is valid.

THAT SAID: delete the files. Why make it harder on yourself than you need to? Struggling with lust is a near-universal experience for Catholic men, especially in our age of easily available pornography. Why would you make the struggle tougher when it’s already pretty tough?

Not to mention, one of the elements of contrition is that you resolve to avoid near occasions of sin. Knowing there are pornographic files on your devices, even if you intend not to look at them, is definitely a near occasion of sin.

I have been in this boat (although I’m not a man. Lust is not exclusive to men ).
Delete as many files as you can.
If there are some you can’t “let go of” right now, even though you’re not looking at them, then keep praying. Keep avoiding looking at them/ avoiding sin.
Ask Jesus and Our Blessed Mother to give you the grace to let go of this stuff.
As time goes by you will be able to delete more and more because it just won’t seem attractive.

Intending to not repeat the sin means not hoarding your favorite porn.
And simply possessing porn is a sin in itself anyhow. Dump it.

Your sins will be forgiven if you are truly sorry for committing them. As someone who has been through this sort of thing (as every man has) let me point out that we can be sorry for these sins and still be struggling to rid ourselves of them, which means sometimes falling back into them. Remember that God is patient with us, and in time with His help, we can overcome any sin.

Go to confession with a mindset which recognizes that what you did was wrong, and that you will try your hardest not to commit this sin again. As long as you have that resolution, the priest should forgive you.

However, I must point out that by keeping those files on your phone, and thus available to you at literally any moment, you open yourself to an enormous near occasion of sin. It’s like trying to fight off your sins with both hands tied behind your back. I strongly recommend that you delete those files and keep your phone and any electronic devices with internet access as far away from such content as possible.

It’s going to take more than deleting the files.

Such material is so easy to obtain these days that even if the OP deletes the files, he can download more if his libido gets the better of him.

I’m not saying don’t delete the files; by all means go ahead and delete them. But it’s going to take a lot of spiritual fortitude and strong resolution to himself to refrain such things.
