Basically let’s say you confess the sin of Gossip for example because you remember a time where you gossiped, when you are in the confessional you are thinking about this and are truly repentant. Then the next morning you remember another time you gossiped a year ago. Would you (next time you went to confession) need to confess gossip again because you were not thinking about that one time you gossiped a year ago in the confessional

Was the gossip a mortal sin? If not, then don’t confess it.

Theres venial sin and mortal sin. Gossip generally falls under venial, unless it becomes mortal sin. All sins are forgiven in confessional if we repent, its to cleanse mortal sins particularly.

What you can do so that you won’t leave any sin out, end repenting with “Also forgive me for any sins I have commited that I do not remember.” It will cover every other sin that might have passed our thought during confessional.

All remembered mortal sins are to be confessed specifically in number and kind. Of course if they are not mortal or the number is not remembered, then that cannot be done.

As far as I know forgotten mortal sins that are later recalled should be mentioned in the next confession. So, I would think if you confessed “I committed X (mortal sin) once” and later realized you did it two or three times or whatever, you would mention the other times at your next confession.

I don’t believe you’re expected to have a vivid recollection of every single time you committed a certain sin. This becomes particularly impractical when the sin is habitual. So if you were to confess, say, dishonouring your parents, and said you did it “about 50 times” because that was your best estimate and then later recalled a certain specific time you committed that sin, I don’t think you would have to mention it again unless you realized that the number of times you confessed to is inaccurate. Because it could be the case that someone committed some mortal sin hundreds of times, it would be morally impossible to recall specifically each one of those.

Oh I thought gossip was pretty much always mortal sin, when would it become mortal sin?

^ You should probably ask your priest about that. And if you did something you thought at the time was a mortal sin, definitely confess it.

I’ve confessed many times since I’ve become Cathoic years ago. At what point do we stop confessing supposedly “remembered” sins… wondering if we did or did not confess that particular one?
