I went to confession today & evidently the priest was in a hurry. Before I could finish telling him all of my sins he did the absolution. I didn’t want to interrupt him. When he finished I said that I wasn’t done & he said “why didn’t you say anything.” I told him I didn’t want to interrupt him. So I told him the rest of my sins & I think all he said was have a nice day. My question is am I still absolved of my sins even though I hadn’t told him everything before he absolved me? I called two different churches & they said I am still absolved. Does anyone know if this is true? I just don’t want to have communion tomorrow if I’m still in a state of sin. I was very upset because I actually took off work to go to confession & then I got hurried by the priest to the point that I don’t even know if I had a valid confession. 😦

Is a reply from some stranger on CAF more accurate than the one from the priests of two different churches? Who would you trust more?

I didn’t ask them if they were priests. Even if they were you never know for sure you’re getting correct info. They could have been in a hurry themselves and just said yes to get me off of the phone. Has anyone had this happen to them before?

To keep it simple: if you went to confession with the intent of confessing everything and it did not happen because of some unintended reasons then you have been absolved. Christ has forgiven and forgotten your sins.

Tulips,

Yes, you are forgiven. You intended to confess your sins and so, in a sense, this is the same as a forgotten sin. The absolution was for your confession – that is for any sins you confessed or would have confessed if you had been able.

God’s mercy is generous beyond belief and He knows what wasin your mind.
