Just a quick question. After 30 years I finally went to confession today. My penance is to read 2 Psalms everyday. I will do that starting tonight before bed. Tonight there is a mass at 7:30 and I’m wondering, can I attend mass and receive communion if I haven’t started my penance yet?? Quick answer please as I want to leave shortly to attend. Thanks so much!!!

Yes! You are forgiven. And WELCOME BACK!
Thank you – I went and I can honestly say that I got very emotional when I received communion. I felt good for the first time in a long time. It’s weird because after I left confession this afternoon, I still felt guilty for my sins. Almost like as if I still had this huge “pit” in my stomach. My shoulders still felt heavy…

After church tonight, I was completely different - I felt good. I don’t have this anxiety in me anymore and the “pit” is gone. My heart is at peace now.

AWESOME!!! God loves you so much!!!

That’s wonderful – I am very happy for you. I have a question though. You said, “My penance is to read 2 Psalms everyday.” Does that “everyday” mean forever? Or did the priest tell you how many days. I had a penance question on the forum earlier, so I’m really interested.

I join with all the others in great joy for you! “The whole of Heaven rejoices over the return of a single sinner” and somewhere or somehow we are all returning sinners.

Joy Joy Joy! It must have been hard but Grace was with you and now reigns in you. Of course you can go to Mass and Holy Communion in Peace and in Joy!

God bless you and keep you always…barb:extrahappy:

All he said was read 2 Psalms everyday. I’m guessing till I’m done reading them. Of course, after I’m done, I will read them time and time again because I want to feel and immerse myself in the Word of God.

Yes, Grace was with me. I can’t explain how hard this was. I pray the rosary everyday and it’s incredible how much I feel our beautiful mother’s presence. Something or should I say someone was pushing me to go to confession and I know it was her. This is her way of bringing me to her Son. The priest read a passage to me from Luke (The Prodigal Son) and then told me that I was the daughter and that all the Angels and Saints are celebrating and having a feast!!! It feels so good to have such a warm, peaceful heart. Full of content and joy. I know God is with me now. 🙂

Thank you for your kind words!!!

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I’m new to this forum and have been reading your messages everyday. I’m learning alot from you all and I’m just so happy to know that there are truly loving people in this world. You are all so encouraging and such an inspiration to the ones who have felt or feel lost. So keep up the great work and may God Bless you all.

I went to confession tonight and attended the evening mass too! :dancing: It gives me joy to read your story. 🙂

HOORAY! Yes, Heaven is rejoicing at your return to the sacraments!

Our Lady pushed me toward confession through the rosary, too. She is a kind but persistent Mother. 😃

Isn’t it wonderful to just let go of all the ugliness that we hold on to for so long. We torture ourselves because of the guilt and shame of having to confess all of our sins. A dear friend of mine today told me that when we feel guilty and ashamed of our sins “pray to Jesus to heal the scars of your sins”. Very well said!

👍

How awesome! Yes, definitely go receive the Eucharist. You earned it. 🙂

WELCOME HOME! I’m so happy to hear of your return! I have two sisters away from the faith. One who has been away for over 30 years. I pray each day, that they… like you, will be granted the grace of faith… and the return Home. God bless you.:hug1:

I pray for my husband everyday - so I know exactly how you feel regarding your sisters. God Bless and hugs to you too.
