We’ve been legally married for 24 years, and although I’ve been to confession, I can’t receive communion. 5 years ago my husband agreed to get our marriage blessed but I came down ill and even unable to attend mass.
so I am going to confession next week, but everytime I go its the same mortal sin,
I’m living in sin and can’t attend mass. Whats the use.

My husband does not think getting our marriage blessed is imp. and he does not go to church or will he. he was just going to do it for me.

I don’t fully understand the situation; I recommend you make an appointment with a Catholic priest, perhaps a seasoned pastor, and walk through the whole situation with him.

If you keep re-sinning the same sin…a new deliberate, grave act…keep going to confession for it…but form a better plan to move away from that sin…a concrete purpose of amendment, an examination of the occasions/things that lead up to that sin/decision, a daily exam on how well you’re doing on your purpose of amendment, frequent confession (say 3 times a month).

If you’re frustrated with the same sin, one priest once remarked “what do you want new sins to confess!!”. :>

Begin again and again.

If you are too sick to go to Mass then it is not a sin.Are you saying you cannot go to mass ever because of an illness?
As far as the marital sin is concerned make an appointment with a priest to correct the problem. You should be getting some spiritual direction anyway with this situation. You could cease marital relations for the time it takes you to get your marriage blessed. You do not have to keep repeating this sin if you don’t want to.

Actually we haven’t been intimate in around 15 or so years, I guess neither of us had a strong sex drive, I know I never really did due to probably a bad exp I had 14, and then I was in a civil marriage for several years in my 20’s and he cheated on me regularly and man handled me often.

My husbands first wife divorced him when he had two young kids 2 and 4, I met him a year later.

Never having the urge as a woman to have children like some woman do he left the option up to me, I decided he should get a vasectomy, as I felt that he had two young kids and they should be first, as I felt he should be as involved in their life, and we were and he has a wonderful relationship with his kids. I also felt it may of caused more strife for his kids if we would of had a child, jealousy, I had to think long and hard about marrying a man with two kids as I knew it was a lifetime decision and that they should always be first in his life.

I don’t want this to sound like I’m a saint, far from it ha ha.

I am unable to attend church for the last 4 years due to illness. I had spoke with a priest shortly before that and he asked me if we were living like brother and sister and I said no,
that we love each other as a man and woman but just aren’t intimate. I’m on disabiltiy due to Ms and he supports me , and I do as much for him as I can. So I think that because we treat and respect each other as a man and wife it would be a lie to say we live like brother and sister, as I have 3 brothers , and I have a different type of love for him.

I am going to try and make it to confession again soon, and I guess I’ll discuss this with the priest again. He is willing to have our married blessed but I’m not up for that now, and he would only be doing it for me as he doesn’t go to church, but atlas I do feel it would be wonderful if he would go to confession and make a good one, as we know we all are sinners.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and listen, guess I needed to get this off my chest.
