I just read in an older homely by the Pope on the Holy Triduum (somebody just posted them here 🙂 ) that the church asks us to go to confession “in these days”. Does that mean we should go during the Triduum? I went on Wednesday. I know I can be very scrupulous but if the Pope says something I of course want to take it seriously!

I believe the Pope means Lent. I’m not sure if you can even find a scheduled confession time during the Triduum.

It might be the area I am in as well. Our priest is a canon lawyer and he said he can do no confessions on Good Friday because he cannot consecrate on that day.

Didn’t Pope John Paul II hear confessions on Good Friday?

That being said, I think it would be hard to find anyone hearing confessions during the Triduum in this area.

Why would one have anything to do with another? I’m truly curious, as I’ve never heard about a prohibition from hearing confession on Good Friday.

Ok, I just answered my own question, to my satisfaction at least.

The cathedral of the diocese where I live has confessions all Saturday AM - not sure about Good Friday.

Yes he did. Actually the Vatican appears to encourage the offering of confession on Good Friday, but U.S. practice is against it. I suspect it is because the priests already have too much to do in the Triduum.

We have confessions on Good Friday and on Holy Saturday and many parishes in our diocese does as well.

So if there are confessions anywhere in my area, do I have to go again even though I was on Wednesday, in order to not disobey the Pope? Or did “these days” not mean necessarily during the Triduum?

You are taking the Pope far too literally. You say you were at confession on Wednesday. Unless you committed a mortal sin since then, you have no need to go to confession again before you normally would.

“These days” do not necessarily mean during the Triduum.

Be at peace.

Well, they happened to have confessions after the Good friday Liturgy I went to, so I asked the priest about it. He said that it meant somewhere around these days, but of course during the Triduum it was something very special again… he did hear my confession even though I didn’t have much to confess… well, we always do have something right? , and since then I think I may have sinned again, even on the way home, just those small things… but I have to and want to believe in God’s mercy!

Sorry about that… Same thing happens to me sometimes. :doh2: 😊

But just remember, it has to be intentional to be considered mortal. You have to have “wanted” to do it – even though.

I don’t think it was anywhere near mortal. Maybe just a little imperfection. 🙂

Where I live, there are confessions scheduled from 0900-1030 on Holy Saturday…I am very happy and excited…I will be going in a little bit!!!
