I am interested in knowing if any of you make a point of going to confession before leaving on a trip… Particularly if you are flying.

**I did so today. I will be flying from Cincinnati to Lander, Wyoming in the morning. I had something serious to confess, and decided I could not allow myself to go another day without confessing it. **

So…I happened to be singing at a wedding Mass being presided over by my confessor. After driving around the parking lot a couple of times after the wedding, I got up my courage and went in and asked him if he would hear my confession before leaving for the wedding reception.

This is a wonderful priest, who came to his vocation after marriage, kids and grandkids. He has been the Associate pastor of our parish the past two years, and will become our pastor upon the retirement of the present pastor, at the end of this month.

**Father D. was pleased to hear my confession. He is first and formemost a priest…A man who actually revels in his priesthood…The joy he finds in his vocation is evident to everyone who meets him. We are so lucky to have this wonderful and holy man in our midst. **

**So…I am “good to go” as they say, and is there any better feeling than the one you have after being absolved of your sins? **

I don’t go to confession on a regular basis…Every week, or even every month. I go when I know I need to, and my confessor is OK with that. He knows know when I need to come see him, and I do. What I meant is that I go regularly, just not at a set time…

What a wonderful sacrament…It is what keeps me on the right track, and is what helps me make real progress in my spiritual and temporal life. I am so grateful for it…Aren’t you?

No, I don’t really make a practice of always going to confession before a trip. I just try to go whenever I know I’m in serious sin. However, it sounds like a good idea. What with the summer travelling season coming up, I should probably try it.

Confession is indeed a marvelous sacrament, I couldn’t agree with you more Catholic Heart. To have your sins absolved and become in a state of grace again gives me a feeling of inner peace. However, with the world we’re living in it could be a challenge to cling onto that state of God’s grace.

I always confess before a trip. In fact, I went last evening because I will be going a way in a few days, for three weeks. I used to do it before flying, though I no longer fly. However, I still confess before my long distance car and train trips.

I haven’t been very good about going to Confession regularly. In fact, I’ve just decided that I will take my children to confession at least once per month from now on. Going to confession before a trip is a wonderful idea and one I hadn’t thought of before. I learn so much here at CA Forums!!!

I usually do go to confession before a big trip or flight regardless of whether or not I have a mortal sin to confess. It puts me at peace.

I know that many airports have chapels. Does anyone know if they have Catholic chapels in any airports and are there ever chaplains there to hear confessions? It seems as if there is a greater demand for the sacrament by people who are about to get on a plan (and for good reason), so I wonder if they have them.

Now that I’m going to Confession every week or two, it’s not as big of a deal, but when I wasn’t going as often, I’d make a special point of going to Confession before I left for a trip. Now, I say an Act of Contrition before boarding a plane (or any other time it seems to be a good idea).

Before my last flight I made it a point to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

LOL, with my travel schedule for work, I would need my own personal chaplain if I wanted to confess each time I boarded a plane.

Instead, I try and make a confession every 2 weeks or so. I do say an “Act of Contrition” at take off, and an “Act of Faith” on landing, and usually spend some of the time in flight saying a Rosary.

Since I’m stuck in a high velocity, pressurized aluminum can anyway, I might as well put my time to good use, and I can’t think of a better one 🙂

…guess it always pays to be preparred…👍

I loathe flying (I usually pray the Jesus Prayer during take-off and landing, as well as making an act of contrition). I try to go to confession every week, but I always make sure I go before a trip of any kind.

I’ve never thought of it and I don’t fly very often but I will definitely make the effort next time. I hate flying. I always joke that the one thing you can be guaranteed of if I die in a plane crash is that Kris and her Lord were very close - I pray most of the flight. I also joke that I can rate an airplane flight by the number of rosaries prayed during it. There’s usually a 3 minimum - 1 during take off, 1 in-flight and 1 during landing!! The last flight I took from San Diego to St. Louis was close to setting a rosary record for me - yikes I hate air pockets!!

Yes, I go regularly, at least every two weeks…but will make a special point to go right before I leave for a trip. I think Confession is one of the best things about being Catholic…never thought that as a “young-un”…but sure do now.
Blessings and peace!

There are Catholic chapels in many (most?) major U.S. airports. There is even an association of airport chaplains. How many of them regularly offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation, however, I don’t know.
