Greetings in Christ,
It has been a pressing question of mine, that whether or not is proper and necessary to go to Confession before receiving the Holy Sacrament. Some Catholics believe that it is alright to do so, and others do not. I make attempts to go to confession, usually on Saturday before vigil Mass, when I can, although I have been guilty of talking Communion on Sunday without Confession. I most certainly prepare myself beforehand through prayer and examination of conscience. This, I do realize is a necessity. But when I receive Hold Communion, I sometimes feel guilty of receiving it unworthily, even though I pray for guidance in the matter.
Also, I do not feel comfortable receiving it from a female, (please don’t construe this as a sexist statement or attitude) as I am a Traditionalist Roman Latin Rite Catholic. I believe in receiving the Blessed Sacrament on the Tongue and only by a Priest. Current circumstances require that I attend Mass at the only Catholic Church available in my area (I am disabled and do not drive).
The church is being sold and will be relocation further away and there are few Catholics in my area to make it viable to keep open. A Protestant congregation bought the building, are gracious enough to share it with Catholics for the celebration of Mass. The new Catholic facility is very nice, but will not be ready, based on funding, until after Easter,
It makes me uncomfortable to see them having to move the Alter, the Blessed Eucharist and other items to prepare for Mass. Even the Crucifix is removed during Protestant services. The church itself has been around for over 120 years, but due to the lack of Catholics, must locate elsewhere. This saddens me greatly.
The Mass that is celebrated is the New Mass, which I do not mind, when done respectively. Unfortunately have observed a laxity in the attitudes of the parishioners, talking on cell phones and chattering amongst themselves, children reading comic books and fidgeting in the pew as running in the aisles as it they were at a playground. It makes it impossible to pray and meditate before Holy Mass.
Even when I first introduced myself to the parish priest, who is a fine person, he removed his collar, and mad himself comfortable on a couch n his office…this conveyed that his was of a liberal disposition, but he listened to my problems attentively and gave me good advice. At one time, I requested that he or some other priest visit my home (I was homebound and sick at the time), a secretary took the message, but I never received a call back. I failed to register wit the parish when I first introduced myself , but neither the secretary or the priest even mentioned that I should have……They often seem more concerned about raising the sufficient funds in order to get the new facility built than on more holy matters. This liberal attitude, which I witness in many New Mass Catholic Churches seems to undermine the Holy Solemnity of Mass itself.
