Sorry if this sounds overly-scrupulous but I went to confession today and am unsure about something. At absolution, the priest said, “I absolve you from your sins, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
My question is: was this valid even if the priest didn’t say “in the name of”?

Sometimes when the priest is talking fast or mumbling under his breath, that’s how it sounds. I get that every few confessions. Don’t worry about it, God heard him okay and knew what he meant.

Yes.

The correct form is “Ego te absolvo, which means I absolve you”.

So long as the priest says this, the absolution is valid.

This seems valid for me too 😉. The priest knows what he does, if he didn’t react you’re fine.

You are just fine. Priests are told by God a variety of things which are often profound. I learned so much at confession that a priest once said “you were given a new spirit.” Believe me, it’s a great… I mean EXCELLENT sacrament by far.
