Confession Confusion

Ok - I’ve never confessed before and I dont really know how it works - other than what you see in films, which im guessing isnt all that accurate.
Basically - what are you meant to say and do? is there an etiquette to it?
And what classes as a sin which i should confess? do some things count and others not? or is it just what i feel i need to confess to?

There is a form (Rite of Reconciliation) to follow for confession:

You would confess all of your mortal sins after an examination of conscience. The link I cited will help you in that regard as well.

Are you by any chance in RCIA? This is a topic they should cover – not only what the sacrament is all about but also the practical steps involved in how to go to confession. Usually confession comes shortly before you are received into the Church.

You should tell the priest this is your first confession and he’ll help you along. (That applies even if it isn’t someone’s first confession. If you say that you’re confused or don’t know what to do, he’ll help you.)

Are you in RCIA? Why haven’t you confessed before? What sacraments have you had? Anyone can’t just go to confession , they need to be properly educated.
