Confession from a Mormon

I remember it being a big deal to my husband that, when we were married in an LDS meetinghouse, he was told by the bishop that he was not to wear a cross and putting one up in the room was out of the question. At the time, I was LDS and didn’t care, but it was a big enough issue to where Hubby nearly backed out, saying that he wanted to make his vows in front of man AND God.

Luckily, we had our marriage convalidated in the Catholic Church on the 3rd anniversary of our civil marriage, so we only have one anniversary to remember. However, even this year we wished each other a “happy 6th/3rd anniversary”. Our convalidation means just as much- if not more- to us than our civil union.

NT, as bad as it may sound, the ingrained judgment of other religions in the LDS Church is pervasive throughout the entire Church. I consider myself to be very kind and open minded when it comes to other ways of life, but as a member of the LDS Church there was always an underlying attitude of “you’re just plain wrong” that I was raised with, and more so I was taught at Church. I bring this up because it IS very difficult for a member of the LDS church to admit to wrongdoing when it comes to religion, and the fact that you have “confessed” shows that your humility outweighs your desire to judge. That’s a very big thing to do, but be careful…

…keep that up and you’ll find yourself acting more Catholic than Mormon!
