Has anyone out there received general absolution by their parish priest or Bishop?

Apparently this has been authorized by the Pope.

I’ve needed to go to confession for a few weeks. Of the two parishes near me, only 1 offers it. And it’s done by appt. I do not feel comfortable doing it. I could get the priest sick or he could get me sick. I’m shocked they are even putting our beloved priest out there like this.

I so miss the Church 😦

General absolution doesn’t get you out going to confession - it’s simply intended to tide you over until you can next get to confession. That’s why you still have to go to confession after Rite III. If you don’t feel comfortable going by appointment then make a perfect act of contrition and go once the risk has lessened.

Do you have any idea how the confession by appointment is being done? I went last week. The priest was in the parish hall with a screen. The chair for the penitent was twelve or more feet away. Even then I was asked to wipe the chair. No problem.

I went to regular confession a week ago. The barrier between me and the priest was so solid that I would have had to spray it with a fire hose to get anything through the solid wood barrier with a double plastic screen, and he was sitting several feet away from it anyway. They were also having the confession out in the main large worship area rather than in a room where germs might fly around in the space or people might touch door handles to get in and out. Other priests are doing the confessions outside from 6 feet away.

Pope Francis has said we can confess our sins directly to God for now. Confession when available is still necessary.

The OP said confession is currently available in their area. OP could go, but feels uncomfortable doing so. There are quite a few areas where confession is still available though public Masses and Eucharist are not.

However, if OP has a valid concern about getting sick or giving the virus to some at-risk person in their home (such as family member), I’m sure the Lord would understand a deferral of confession as long as OP went promptly when the Mass suspension was lifted and confession schedules returned to normal.

They said call for an appointment.

Anyway, I checked the website yesterday and it said confessions today from 3-5pm with social distancing.

I went in and they held it in the gymnasium, all the way to the rear. I saw Fr. back there behind the semi-barrier wearing a mask with his i-pad in his hand. Thanked him him and told him we appreciated it as many parishes are not have any confessions.

I honestly thought the chair were I am at was too close. But if it’s 12 feet like you say, a person might have scream their sins out lol.
