Thank you all for your comments. I am just so upset and embarrased at myself for even going. I wish I had just remained ignorant to the whole thing. Now my husband is very upset. He has been trying to be supportive of my being Catholic, but now he is defintiely not. This just feels like the worst day of my life. I couldn’t have even imagined this. I am the first person in my family to be marry a non-catholic, so I guess I just never knew. I am just questioning if I was ever even meant to be a Catholic. I’ve taken my rosaries and medals and placed them aside for now. I just can’t take it upon myself to figure out what to do and am so confused. I hope you all don’t hate me, and thank you all for your advice. I think I just need time to figure this all out.
I pray that God will give you the strength to do what is necessary to correct the situation.

It started as many others do by not knowing you Catholic Faith very well. Not listening to or wanting to follow the advice of family when thinking about marriage outside the Catholic faith.

No advice, but I wanted to send some {{{hugs}}} since you are having a rough time. God bless you.

I think many do not understand why the Church offers the counsel that it does. The point of reconciliation is to bring us to God whole and holy. Each confession is a movement Godward. Each absolution and penance makes us ever more like God. It cleanses and heals. One must understand also that the Church is not some political organization which has rules only for rules sake. The Church is both divine and human. We are at least as much part of the family of all the saints who have gone on before as we are part of the saints who remain here.

Jesus told St. Peter that whatsoever you bind on earth is bound in heaven. You wish to be in heaven with our Father. You wish your mate to be with you. He surely wishes the same for you and for himself, doesn’t he? If he really does, if he loves you and you love him as much as you said you did in your secular marriage vows then it makes good sense and is a loving act on his part to go with you to a priest and get this matter resolved.

Does that make sense?

One last comment. I made the simple vow many years ago that I want to be like Jesus and I wish to live with Him forever. This simple decision has guided my life and has led me to obedience to the Church that Jesus established. I pray the same for you and you mate.
