Confession help.

Firstly if I have posted in the wrong place I apologise. After a difficult time in my life I am finding my way back home and I have not been to mass or confession for such a long time. My quesion is how do I go to confession? Sorry if this sounds a stupid thing to ask, but I am just not sure how to do it:blush:

When I returned after a lengthy absence, the priest understood that I might be a bit rusty on the procedures. He took me through the whole sacrament, and licit or not, gave me absolution for everything in the time since my previous confession, whether remembered or not.

Don’t worry about it. Most priests I am sure will do the same with you. Just remember that your heart is leading you to the right place and you are welcomed back home with open arms.

Chris, sweetie, rest easy, it’s entirely licit to absolve unremembered sins. The rule is that any sins you’ve not remembered are always absolved anyway, although you should mention any that do come to memory in your next confession.

Confession isn’t meant to be a memory test - although we should do our best to examine our consciences properly and bring to mind ALL our mortal sins. Some people find that a written list helps - and you can enjoy chucking it in the bin/burning/shredding it afterwards, it’s very therapeutic.

The only problem would be if you deliberately omitted a mortal sin that you DO remember perfectly well - THAT would invalidate the confession.
 
Update - I have had an email from one of my parish priests and I am making arrangements to see him:)
 
I saw my parish priest today and we had a long talk. He has given me a booklet to read and when I am ready to go to confession I am to let him know. I have decided to go to confession next week:D
